Speckled Sussex...

Light Brahmas, Bertha and Charlotte(guest starring Nelly, the obsessive herding freak)

My most prettiest girl, Carolina :)

And of course, Splash, the girl with two different eyes. I originally planned on selling her as a baby but what can I say...I love unique things, birds included.

Very nice pics!!

Ahh im anxious my eggs go into lock down tomorrow and im worried they wont hatch. the EE hasnt shown much devolpment theres just like black taking up half the space of the egg and the RIR and orpinton cross egg was a double yolk but now only has one so im kinda worried Dx someone give me some positive advice that both of them are still living

I just hatched out two eggs that when candled showed up as "black" in half the egg. I think u still have a good chance for chicks!

Hmmm I don't know if I can help b/c I hatch with broodies  but I am planning to be setting Silver Penciled Wys...LF at some point in the next 9 mos or so.  I will be selling all but 1 pullet so IF I get more than 1 I will have one or more for you.

If you want New Hampshire (later in 2014) or Delawares or barnyard mixes in silver red cuckoo white or black...I can give you free eggs too.

I am also sort of working on a silkied D'Uccle thing and I will let you know how that goes....mille fleur D'Uccle girls w/ White silkie roo at this point we have no chicks but there are two eggs under a broody. The silkie gene won't show in this generation but when I breed  any pullets back to  the silkie roo the silkie should come through on half...wait weren't you the one who told me that???  You must be a star in your AP Bio class :)

Delawares and silver pencilled wyandottes are so lovely.

ok have to vent.

We have had rain since Thursday here. Since Friday it has been ABSOLUTELY POURING non stop.
We have had close to 7" in 24 HOURS they say
It can stop now we have made enough up for this weekend thank you. I am not sure how much we have gotten since this started here but its all flowing down to Folsom Lake at this point I can tell you lol as nothing else can absorb into the soil and this has been the case since Friday
There is no way I can clean my coops today unless this stops and it looks like we will be having rain still all day or at least a lot of it

My silkie coop is a soppy mess in the front. I put some rubber pads down as a path to the brick but the have soppy mud on them too.

You could see the silkies jumping down on the pads all in a row and lifting their feet high on the way to the brick and dry area by the house.

They got kicked out by the higher ranking girls who refuse to leave the coop.

Use permethrin. Many source say no withdrawal for eggs. 5 days for eating swine meat so I would probably not eat the chicken for 5 days but the eggs should be ok.
I got the 8 day withdrawal advice from my Food and Health Vets at UC Davis notes.

I feel more confident in advice from the Food and Health Vets at UC Davis over advice I read in forums and labels since you never know the source or if there were any studies done on laying hens to support the information being presented.

Here is a link to a scientific study you might find enlightening.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7343077

I raise my own chickens so I can eat healthy eggs so I don't want them laced with chemicals or antibiotics.

my coops yesterday afternoon (they look the same or worse today):

so much for the deep litter bedding! i have no idea what to do with it now, afraid it will mold...

that puddle in front of the doorway is about 5" deep -- i will definitely need to figure out better drainage somehow. these additional coops were built last summer, so we haven't had ANY rain since then -- had no idea things would puddle up like this.
