The closest neighbors are all related to me too.

OMG that happened to me a couple of years ago. I screamed & hollered as loud as I could & my husband was right nrxt door in the barn loft (his "man cave") & said he never heard me..............................LOL. I don't have peacocks anymore but the noise the chickens made when I started screaming was deafening......LOL

At one point the dog was barking the chickens were going crazy the peacocks were calling and I was hollering...a scene from Beverly Hillbillies...did I mention I was in my robe and jammies??

I've always been afraid that would happen to me.

This is my second time but the first in this pen. That is how we figured out we needed to up the security of pen 1. This one...not a problem.
Oh, my! I have done that before. Fortunately my husband was home. I think I will check the string on mine before pulling the door closed this morning. My husband is at work today.....

I solved the problem for the rest of the day by opening it up so they could range. My D is home.

Same here. We finally have sunshine and the girls were soooo happy to be let out this morning.

my coops have sliding bolts on the outside, and the simple hooks to latch the door closed from the inside, so i can't get locked in! didn't want to run the risk, since i live by myself...

Good planning! I have a gate latch and put a clip thru it from the outside, but it sometimes latches when I am inside. We have a string that goes up and over the rail that you pull to unlatch it from inside. Sometimes you have to pull the gate toward you to get it to release. I have scared myself a couple of times thinking I locked myself in, but then was able to get it released.

Those of you with Marans: How do yours lay? I read the reviews and it is hard to say if people are expecting too much. I am perfectly happy with 3 or so eggs a week from a hen who will keep laying for years to come so I wanted to know what your experiences have been. I would only be adding a couple, most likely birchen from lawatt but I do want dark eggs.

So do mine! But I didn't plan on my 10 yr old daughter actually closing and locking a door for once! I tease her occasionally by locking her in while we are both out there!

I have 4 BC Marans hens right now, but they only reach POL the beginning of January so not really in the swing yet. I have probably gottn about 30 eggs fro the 4 so far..

Yeah...imagine how you would feel when you heard it click home then grabbed the release string and there was no tension....Props to Tom no racoon is getting in that pen!

Well, I just spent 20 minutes yelling for help after locking myself in the chicken pen. Thank God for my neighbor two doors down who could tell I wasn't a peacock squawking.   Advice, if you have feral peacocks in your neighborhood and need help don't yell "Help!"  yell "Help Me Please" or "Fire" or something.  My husband builds a great pen!

The tie that I use to unlatch got untied in the rain I guess...anyway I just so grateful that I was sprung,

Lol so glad u got out! I had a similar incident last year. Locked myself in the shed accidentally ( the wind blew the door shut and when it slammed, the hasp swung over and locked) ...is a little scary thinking you could b in there for hours n hours! Is even worse when you have a bad bladder that's worse in stressful situations!

I was not going to share this until the end of the month when I have better data, but here is one weeks results from my hens. My blue Marans lays a nice dark and large egg. When I was collecting eggs, she laid 7 in 10 days.

I had hatched some of her eggs last week but had an unfortunate incident and lost the chicks. The black copper and the black Marans are sisters and lay light brown eggs. Top and bottom are two different coops.
