California - Northern

Well, I just spent 20 minutes yelling for help after locking myself in the chicken pen. Thank God for my neighbor two doors down who could tell I wasn't a peacock squawking.   Advice, if you have feral peacocks in your neighborhood and need help don't yell "Help!"  yell "Help Me Please" or "Fire" or something.  My husband builds a great pen!

The tie that I use to unlatch got untied in the rain I guess...anyway I just so grateful that I was sprung,
Glad you got out. My son almost locked me in by habit of latching the door. I didn't have my phone so thankfully I realized it before he walked too far away

They're hatching!!! Day 26!!!!

Marans can hatch late, but 26 days is very late.

It is a good thing you have the Brinsea Octogon coming!

Oh Alibra that is the best news! Keep us updated!!
You should do what works for you.

If you decide to end his life, do not feel guilty. You did what you could to try to make him better, but it didn't work.

If I were in your place, I would have someone end his life quickly. I wouldn't let him suffer, since he can't breathe well. Even though you really like him, letting him live when he is suffering is not a kindness.
That is what I would say but @capayvalleychick said it better. Remember that animals don't fear death, they experience fear when there is pain and illness.

@lawatt and everyone, any idea what this is? A FB friend in Port Orchard, WA, had it show up at her place. She's not far from Olympic National Park.
How cool is that! It is a blonde racoon. Unlike an albino there is coloring/pigmentation because tue eyes are not red and just like a polar bear it has skin coloring (polar bears have black skin just like this sweetie) which you can see on the hind leg and face including around the eyes, mouth and most noticably that little nose. Maybe it is a good omen, like a white buffalo they are pretty rare. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, they are the same.

Agreed.  I have hatched in the brinsea, but most of the time I hatch in my hovabator for hatching.  The babies fluff up really quickly in the brinsea, but the dander gets up into the fan blade and you have to take it apart to clean it.  It's hard to hatch in the Brinsea if you have a lot of eggs set.
what??!! Is it hard to clean? I have a hatch coming up withy brinsea. Do any of the new hovabators have automated temp and humidity?

Oh my. What great stories to be able to tell at get togethers lol. I would be in trouble I live alone most of the time...note to self, add emergency beacon, life alert or secret passage to chicken coop. So glad you are safe and you have great neighbors!

Mine are from breeders. Valley View Farms is very close to me She raises Golden Lakenvelders, BLue Andalusins, B;ack Copper Marans, Silkie Bandams, Light Sussex, Buckeye, Ameraucana and Jumbo Borwn Coturnix Quail. I bought mine from her as started pullets last spring. The one I have that had aome sort of trauma was from shipped eggs. She was the only survivor of the skunk massacre of 2013. I am still not 100% sure she is laying at all though.

Thank you all so much for your compassion. I needed that reminder. Have to go get the kids from school and I'm kind of a mess cause I'm sure of what must be done. I just won't be able to have it done with the children here. So I'm giving this boy a few more hours

If he miraculously pulls out of it, then hooray until the next weather change. I really don't expect it, so I'll have to ask someone to come take care of this after the children go to sleep.
