California - Northern

Hi there and welcome to BYC!

I know where Coarsegold is. I'm from Merced originally and have spent most of my life longing to live in/near Mariposa, maybe Auberry, Northfork, Coarsegold, Tollhouse, Catheys Valley (have fond memories of Catheys Valley from my childhood). Are you guys within the snowline yet this year?

What kind of hens are you raising? Do you have roosters?

Once again,

What birds are you looking for?

I'm in Oakland. In the springtime I'll have Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and English Blue, Black, Splash Orpington eggs and chicks available!

Hi Jeremy,
When would you be trying to get them to send chicks? March, April or May? I have travel issues this Spring, so would have to plan carefully. Also, I see a disclaimer on the website: “Hatchery Choice” means you choose the breed, but I choose the variety. One or more varieties may be included of the varieties I breed. " To me this means he won't guarantee color... I am interested, but really only in the Lavendar, Silver or Wheaten. (Or maybe I should stick to buying some of your Blue Wheaten babies!!)

Cheers,
Dawn

Dawn, the order is filled as soon as possible. John doesn't run a major hatchery operation, so he hatches only when orders are received, at least that's my understanding. So the sooner we get our order in, the sooner we get our babies!

As far as the "hatchery choice" option, that is there if you don't care what color chicks you get. It's cheaper that way, but you don't get to choose your color. However that is not the only option you can choose individual chicks by color and make an order of 25 that way.

Are you interested? I could probably hatch some chicks to coincide with the order that way you would still get some BW, too.

ETA: If you're worried about being out of town when the order arrives, I could probably chick sit for you until you got back.

Hi Jeremy!
Aha! Thanks for clearing this up. As long as we can order any number of each color to get to the 25 mark, I'm in. (Especially if you can babysit for me if I'm away!! Thanks for the generous offer!) I'll PM you now.

I'm not new here or anything and I believe I've posted in this thread before, but I figured I'd briefly post again.

I'm in Penn Valley, CA, right near Nevada City and Grass Valley and fairly close to Auburn as well. I've made some great chicken friends through BYC and I'm always happy to make more chicken friends! If anyone is ever in the area and wants to come visit my flock, anyone from BYC is welcome to come meet my birds and talk poultry. For people who go to PPBA, I'll see you there at the BYC meet up or in the sales barn! Fun fact: I actually work at a farm sanctuary rescuing chickens, so chickens really are something that my life somewhat centers around.

The sanctuary I work at has a ton of gorgeous mixed-breed roosters up for adoption, and starting next week we will have four hundred hens up for adoption (various laying breeds, about three years old). If anyone is interested in adopting either a rooster, hens, or both, just drop me a PM any time and I'll set you up with some birds.

As for my personal flock and projects, I occasionally have extra OEGB or seramas who need homes, and I can offer fertile purebred serama eggs, fertile large duck eggs (pure rouen or black swedish/rouen cross), fertile guinea fowl eggs (one pied male, one pearl hen, and one lavender hen), fertile coturnix eggs, and mixed fertile bantam eggs that will be either half OEGB or half bantam sumatra and then the other half could be a number of things. I can even incubate specific numbers of my eggs for people if desired. I'm not a big time breeder at all, in fact I only incubate for myself a few times a year, but I figured I'd offer if anyone in northern California is looking for those sorts of eggs. I go to Roseville/Sacramento/Yuba City/Marysville area a fair amount and occasionally to the bay area as well if someone wants to meet in any of those areas to get eggs or birds.

Alright folks, this is where we're at for the Ameraucana order.

Currently:
jeremy- 3 wheatens and 3 silvers
wolftracks- 4 lavs and 4 silvers
Laurieks- 5 wheatens and 6 "surplus" chicks

We've met our 25 chick minimum!

If anybody else wants in we will have to shoot for a total of 50 chicks, as the totals must either be 25 or 50 chicks.

Going once... going twice... ... ... ...
