California - Northern

Hopefully by the end of summer there will be some culls. The Delawares are very nice too! The are the ones recreated by Kathyinmo.

How very astute of you to mention culls;). I'm realizing that I'm not so much interested in the birds that meet SOP, as I am the eggs...the rainbow basket. So mostly I'll be after the chicken you wouldn't necessarily show or that meets any other standard than making beautiful eggs. Having said all if that, I'm done with hatchery chickens forever. I still want a quality hen.

Oh yes! They will be Quality for sure. @tommysgirl has some of Culls from @capayvalleychick and they are doing great for her.

Since they came from Chiquita they should be perfect!

The trick with shipped eggs it to not turn them for up to 7 days. That includes not candling them. They need to go upright in the incubator when they reach room temperature. I put mine in cut down egg cartons or on the turner with the turner turned off. The extra day of resting will lower the hatch rate of the oldest eggs.

Candle them first to make sure there are no little cracks in the eggs. Also check the condition of the air cell. The worse the condition of the air cell the longer you will want to leave the turner off.

Happy hatching!

That's the info I had remembered reading. Poo- my bator is on a staggered hatch and so won't be able to turn off the turner for a week! Akkk.

Yay! I was worried it might have been too tight.

I will now eat a cermel in your honor!

We were like " oh Thers another one, and another, and another. " so funny there are a few eggs in there that look they're from an ostrich / chicken...

The more I look at your picture flowers the more I think why do my picturs of my marans eggs never look like that? Lol.

I sent you a interedting mix to try and hatch together. Should keep ya busy!

Right . Last time the serama hatched on day 17-18. Any advise on marans is welcome. I'm not going to stress on candeling but I will be watching the air cells. They are HEAVY. They will be ok on a 35-40 humidity I hope as that's what I have set for the other eggs. And I expect them to go late... I'll be patient.

This will totally keep me occupied as I enter this oh so uncomfortable stage of pregnancy. Blech! Summer is just around the corner. ;-)

Since those eggs only came from San Jose, they should be fine. Pop them into the incubator and let them turn.

Happy Hatching!

Went to candle the eggs because I figured out today was day six! Batteries going dead. Bummer! Guess I won't be candling tonight. Funny how I sat on my hands ALL day and then finally gave in... only to discover I can't candle anyway! Had I tried earlier I would have known about the batteries and not candling wouldn't have been near the test of self-control! Or I would have just gone out and bought batteries
