Several of my Muscovies have pipped, but all seem like they're shrink-wrapped. Also just did an eggtopsy on one that probably died yesterday and was quite surprised by what I found.... It's yolk sac was a sack of infection, that's something I haven't seen before.

Hatching looks like such hard work. No wonder the chicks have to be strong to make it. Congrats on those ducks and to all the peeps with new peeps! Ron, hope you haven't lost too much sleep. I see that you now have a new title - Daily Digest Guru. You should be the Hatching Guru!

@WendyJeepchick have your friend email me and I will help her find some. [email protected]
Karen, last I heard, Craig was fine. Some other Dork people have been in contact with him, recently.
Kim,
So glad to hear Craig is okay. I will try to find my old contact info on him & give him a call. In the meantime I hope Wendy is able to get in contact with you for her friend. I should see her this week sometime. She is going to get one of my free loading free ranger roosters to add the blue egg gene to her flock.
Sorry for my poor typing all the time. I spend more time correcting my typing errors than I do typing the post. LOL

OK @chickee Here is a shot of one of the Mottled. I stole it from under the broody to get a shot of the come for comparison. I will get one of all of them once they are all hatched. There are a couple that look like this and a couple that are more spotty. #5 is working it's way out of the shell right now

I love those!

You got lucky with the mottled ones! How many of the mottled and how many solid colored chicks did you get?

That is wierd......They usually have such a thick waxy coating I wouldn't think any bacteria could get in there. I hope that was the only one.

Quote: So far I think they were all mottled. One is hatching now (Should be out by the time I get back from my granddaughter's 4 year birthday party). I have 3 different breeds hatching so I may have that wrong. All of the ones that have already hatches are out under one broody or another.

I wish! But I have a closed flock. Nothing comes in unless it is through hatching eggs.

Dilemma......Last night when I went to bed there were 2 Marans chicks that had hatched. One has feathered legs...the other doesn't. There were 2 pipped egg with just a very small pip. One was an OE and the other a Mottled AM. This morning the OE is also fully out and all three look pretty fluffed. The problem is...they all look pretty much alike to me and I can;t tell the OE from the Marans. These are not great shots but I am hoping someone can tell me which is which. The one with the pin legband I am confident is a Marans...the other 2 I can't tell!

Vicki,
That's exactly what I am afraid of & why I struggle as to what to put in the incubator together. My OE cross is Marans & True Ameraucanas & although the AM is strongly present in looks usually I sometimes get feathered leg but not usually. Some have beards & muffs. Some are clean faced. I wouldn't want to make a mistake on the chicks so I am too "chicken" to hatch them together. I have a incubator going with nothing but OEs & AMs right now. Any that hatch will be colored egg chicks, blue or green that I can sell or keep with confidence....LOL The other incubator has BCMs, Blue/Black Orps & Buff Orps, True Ameraucanas & even one or 2 of the new Brown Leghorns. I can tell all those chicks apart & will band them right away. I haven't hatched in awhile so this will be fun again. I am even going to candle these .....LOL.

Cute cute cute!!
Happy birthday deann!
Audio look for spots of other color on the chicks fcbms will be all black and white and should all have feathered shanks. The legs of the oes should ve different in a few weeks too.
We are comming back from the serama show!
