What a gorgeous view you have from your front yard!

I live in the South Bay (Campbell)... I figure that counts for Nor Cal... I have 5 pullets (14 weeks) but I am interested in getting 2-3 more. Maybe cochins, brahmas, buff orpingtons... Some around the same age as my girls would be great, but I can put babies in a brooder, too. I wouldn't mind doing more if I have to because I am sure I can find homes for the extras. I would like good layers, friendly and quieter breeds.

I was thinking of going to the Stockton show, but not sure. It's a little out of the way, and I would have my two little kids with me and they are a handful. I've been checking CL for chicks but nothing has come up that I'm interested in, or I'm nervous about the seller.

I'm new to chickens, we picked up 6 in October and the CM turned out to be a roo so we had to rehome him. I have picked up chicken math pretty quickly because I figure 6 - 1 = 8.

I used to live in Campbell! Campbell is definately Nor Cal. I loved that community. Very family friendly and they started the whole recycling thing for the whole state! Nice community!

Checking in with some local chicken raisers!

is anyone close by Fairfield?
I mean besides my backyard neighbor who has chickens...... How do I know you ask? Well by the sound of course! Not because I actually know my neighbors.....

But until then, "hello my cyber chicken friends".

Welcome Jenesis! I see you are a math whiz, too, like most of the rest of us!

I am truly fortunate to live in such a gorgeous place. After living all over the world, Provence, France, Costa Rica, and NorCal are the places I love the most! (But especially Healdsburg, as there is "no place like home", as Dorothy says!)

Jenesis, a lot of BYCer's are going to Stockton, so it would probably be worth the drive if you want some chickens. I am sending two Wellies for AnnaRaven to Stockton through the "chicken train"! Nothing wrong with them (in fact they just started laying at nine months!) but don't fit with my new biology science project. (color genetics for feathers and eggs!) Ah, yes, and I see even Julia Roberts has been sucked in by chickens!!!

Life is good.

Here is my winter garden with run/coop in back. The naughty birds sneak in to the garden every once in awhile! Kale gone! Poof!

I was born and raised in Santa Rosa (except for a short bit in Sonoma and Sebastopol) and spent a lot of time in Healdsburg because that is where my friend's dad lived (he owns Opperman & Son's). It's really beautiful up there. My family still lives in SR.

My chicks LOVE kale. They devoured 2 of my kale plants in a matter of minutes when they got into the garden. I have to keep an eye on them when they are out because the coop and pen are in the same area of the yard as my garden. It gets the best light though.

Yea that's why we moved form the Bay Area. Well... that and the traffic.

Not loving Reno though. They are a little too conservative up here for me and it's too cold. Probably just me.

dldolan, we love Healdsburg! Such a cute little town.

DH was up for a job there so we toured the area. Healdsburg was so memorable that we've been back several times just to soak up the atmosphere.

Yippee! Lots of Sonoma County lovers! I will have to have a picnic next summer! That would be fun!

We just moved to our 5.5 acres 10 months ago after living in Santa Rosa for five years. Drove around the whole county yesterday convincing a friend that she should move here, and I love all of it! Graton, Bodega, Sebastopol, Petaluma, village of Sonoma. sigh. So many neat places!

I had to put up green, movable fencing around the garden as the girls just go at it too hard. When I dig up the winter garden to prep for spring, i'll let them in again to help turn in the compost, though. Happy scratching, girls!

We used to go to Bodega all the time... good memories going to Dillon Beach, rolling down the dunes, and picking up salt water taffy from the little pink shack on the side of the road. Oh, and driving through the little area where they filmed The Birds!

We're definitely fortunate to have such beautiful places to live and visit in No. Cal.
