California - Northern

When I went out to get eggs after work this afternoon (I work 10:30-2, and pick up my older daughter at 2:30), my 5-year-old informed me that Omelette was sitting on eggs in a nestbox. Sure enough, she was. She wasn't flattened, though, and she didn't give me any trouble when I reached under and pulled out 2 eggs from under her breast--she stood up slowly, and was still standing there when I came around the front and looked in the door. Should I watch over the next couple days to see if there's a repeat performance? If there is, how long should I wait to decide whether to try to break her or take advantage of broodiness? If she is broody, and I decide to let her brood, when would I need to set eggs to join the Easter Hatch-Along?

Is it likely that a (probably) hatchery WR is broody?

She may have just laid an egg. It is a lot of work and they sometimes rest.

Their combs will go pail when the lay an egg too. They like to fool you into thinking they are going broody sometimes.

Well, like I said, I'll watch her the next couple of days, though neither of the eggs that were under her were all that warm (warm, but not just-laid warm). I went out just now, over half an hour since I got the eggs, and she's still standing in the same position she got into when I put my hand under her. Didn't notice if her comb was paler or not.

Are you wanting a broody hen Amy?

My OEGB fooled me awhile ago. She was sitting outside the nest boxes then darting in when one was left. I set her up in a carrier in the coop and all she wanted to do was play in the shavings and buried the eggs I collected for her.

Hey, lucky you if you get a broody! I'm really hoping one of my girls will go broody so she can raise up the chicks I'm getting early April, but I doubt it'll happen for me!

Well here goes,
12 d'Anver
6. SDW phoenix bantams
12. Partridge Rock bantams
1. BBS ORP bantam, if she lays tomorrow I add it also.

Just waiting for temp to come back up after adding today's eggs. For an LG still air not feeling to bad, last nights low was 99 and a high of 100. Just need it to stay that steady!

The pigeons have their second egg today also!

I have a silly question: what is the difference between Easter Eggers & Americaunas?

AMs are recognized by the SOP and they have to match the standard to be AMs.

EEs don't match the Standard.

Be careful when talking about them. The AM Folks are fierce!

They scare me a bit....
