I think you are right about the chicken math . . I have been working at my own pace and I am well ahead of the class

The Porcelain color is very pretty and yes I will be disappointed if I don't get a rooster because they are especially beautiful!

I would take the mid 90's any day over what we are getting!! Thank goodness it did not get up to the predicted 103 today and we topped at 102 which is bad enough!!! Supposed to be 104 tomorrow. Hope the weather man is wrong!

A raccoon after your babies!!!! They are deadly! Thank-goodness you saved your pullets!!! My friend in Michigan had one chew its way in and kill all of her SQ bantam buff Brahmas right after she sent me eggs from them.

Fortunately I had a good hatch and will be able to send her eggs once they are old enough to start laying to help build back up her flock.

I hate that skunk smell so much that I can smell them before anyone else can!!! We have one that thinks it is our pet

One evening I was going out to put the chickens to bed and looked out the door, which has a glass pane and here is this skunk sitting on the door mat scratching itself like a cat!! We tried to shoo it away and it just ran under my car and then we chased it out of the carport and it hid under the deck. We had to turn on the hose and soak it to get it to leave!! It was just a half grown youngster at the time, and now it still hangs around and is full grown, but it thankfully stays away from the front door!
Candace, I think you have advanced chicken math! Trigonometry or maybe Calculus? As long as it doesn't get to the Astrophysics stage, I guess you'll manage fine!

For a gawky stage, those chicks are still cute. I looked on Boggy Bottoms to see the porcelain color. No wonder you chose it! Beautiful! The rooster they show is stunning, particularly with the white beard. Will you be disappointed if you didn't get a rooster?

We are supposed to be in the mid-nineties through the weekend. Too hot for me, but I can't complain (well, at least not on this thread!) since so many others have it worse. The only chicken I worry about is the Gold sex link, who does not tolerate the heat well.

We had the house and garage all opened up tonight to try to cool things down. Heard a noise in the garage not 10 feet from where we were sitting watching Olympics, and it was a raccoon

, bold as beans! No chance for it to go for the pullets before we scared it off. Let the dogs out to make sure it understood it had wandered into enemy territory. They were so upset! Don't know if it was because the 'coon got too close to their kibble or too close to the chickens, in which case they were protecting their potential dog toys.

Could have been worse, I guess, as we noticed eau de skunk wafting around the back yard a little while later.

I'm sure all of you already know it but we didn't until today! While shopping at our local Albertsons grocery store we bought some veggies for our Chooks! The Produce manager heard us talking and said "are you looking for produce for your chickens?". He said that they have veggies that don't qualify for the food bank for humans and we could have all we want! He said that most stores throw away tons of veggies that would be great for chickens and they are more than happy to give it away! Here's what they gave us today! Wendy is chopping it up and bagging it as we speak! What the chickens don't eat out mealworms and composting red worms will get! ~David and Wendy

what in teh world am i??

Yup, partridge silkie.

In my last hatch of silkie, I got a partridge, a blue & a porcelain.

I've got more eggs in right now at 7 days. They are shipped, so far out of 36 eggs, 16 appear to be developing, unfortunately only one of the partridge and they are one of my favorite colors. I'm keeping my fingers crossed

that some more show development.

Amy Beth?...the Produce manager said that too many people are too afraid to ask for the scraps! He said they just have to throw them away! It's a waste! We're going back there more often! You have to explain that it's for your chickens! I hope you can take advantage of this perk! ~David and Wendy

That is awesome. I need to ask around.
I know Raley's ans Bel Air won't.. I use to service those store's..I tried to get it from them. Corporate would rather throw it away. What a waste.
