California - Northern

I'm having health issues and my husband is getting tired of caring for my birds, so I need to reduce my flock some more. Is anyone interested in two mature toms, a Black Mottled and a Blue Palm, both from Porters? I also have six half-grown turks that show black mottled but may have some Blue Palm in them. And eight Jumbo Pekins, two drakes and six hens. The hens are laying. PM me if you're interested.

Jules I'm sorry to hear that. I will ask around down here and see if anyone is interested. Take care of yourself and hope you feel better soon.

Dre' Looks so good! It is amazing how they go from little chicks to big old Roos so fast...

Thanks man! I appreciate that. Yeah they do grow up SUPER FAST! His colors are coming in Soo good now. He has like a purplish greenish tint in his tail And all the white feathers look like some kind of jacket he's wearing lol. He's definitely has a permanent home here.
I'm also really excited to see what comes from these chicks he's a daddy to. I'm on like day 11 today with the incubation. So we shall see in about 2 weeks!

Today's music is brought you by the Panting Chickens. Poor things. How are your birds doing today?

it's "only" about 90° up here on Sonoma Mtn, there's some panting going on, but ok otherwise -- the cats, in contrast, are hiding indoors where it's about 10° cooler (although not for long, we're about to get hit with afternoon sun)

i think it was actually hotter yesterday, but the chicklets went on their biggest excursion to date, roaming quite a ways (out of eyeshot!) from their lovely coop -- exploring the areas under the oak trees & scurrying amongst coyote brush. they had a FABULOUS time. here's four of them doing that free-ranging thing:

and am very excited, as i should be getting some baby chicks sometime next week! not yet clear which breeds/genders will hatch, but the breeder is giving me first choice of several kinds, since i contacted her first -- more decisions to make! but since i got my first six as pullets, it will be fun to raise them up from tiny chicks!

All of my pens have misters and the chickens/chicks will go stand under them when they get hot. I had to turn off the heat lamp in the chick house. It is 102.4 right now at 3:34. Supposed to be 104 tomorrow. Sure glad I broke all of my broodies before the heatwave!! I lost one that was in the nest laying an egg when we lived in Kenwood when it got real hot, so I worry a lot about the heat and my chickens!

Before my chickens learned that the misters were a good thing I would sprinkle down the yard AND chickens with water to be sure they did not overheat

They don't always know what is best for them
