Bad Dog!

We're excited because our Australorp "Molly" has laid 4 eggs in the last 4 days and 3 of them had double yolks! We got home from a trip to

Newport Beach/Anaheim (our old home before Tracy) and my wife Wendy picked up one of our Chooks before bed and gave her a hug! Ruthie (the Chook) cuddled back with her and I took this picture! We're now getting 3 eggs a day from our chooks and when the 4th starts laying we should have 4 eggs a day!...Yippee!

Cute pic! Never thought I;d hug a chicken before. But I do! haha

So Copper is dandy. The Easter Eggers are dandy. They are ALL going out to the coop tonight. Sweet! I know they are ready. Room to move! I hope they don't all freak out tomorrow morning. I will get some pics tomorrow of them all together.

Want a yummy non-egg recipe? I created this years ago when I wanted a healthier (less additives/chemicals) shell topping on my ice cream. This is actually better tasting too!

Chocolate Magic Shell (for ice cream)

1/2 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
1-3 TB coconut oil

Warm in microwave 30 seconds at a time stirring in between each re-start. Pour on ice cream and it will crisp up.

Does not need to be refridgerated. We always use it within a week though so haven;t tested it beyond that. Don't store it in fridge unless you plan on re-warming it. It will get rock hard.

For thinner shell use more oil, for thicker shell use less oil. HAS to be coconut oil for this to work right.

Ha! Can you leave anything edible on the counter with a Chocolate Lab around? Dog folks call it counter-cruising!

Hi LYNDA

Glad to hear your girls are doing well! The wheaten pullet will be smaller than the buff. The buff color in the Ameraucanas came from buff Orpingtons which are larger birds and that is why your buff x wheaten girl is bigger. She will probably lay a bigger egg too. Some of her older sisters I sold to people on the Nevada thread are starting to lay at 5 months! One is laying a sky blue egg and the other a darker turquoise egg. It will be fun to see what color yours lays.

It was supposed to be 103 today but has only reached 101.5 so far. Saturday it is supposed to be 104!!! I have water misters going in all of the chicken pens. How are your temps down there?

I just put 19 bantam Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs in the incubator

I have chicks everywhere! But these are from my friend who bought a trio of BLRWs with me in January and she has only been able to get one chick to hatch from several tries. She gave me 18 eggs and only 2 chicks made it to hatch. They are adorable! and I love the 3 pullets I hatched from the same lady we bought the trio from (one is in my Avatar) so I want to build up a flock of them.

The star gazer chick is doing well. In fact, now that they have feathered in I can't tell which one it is!!! They are going through a gawky stage right now. I don't know why but I think all 3 are girls. Here is a picture I took of them last week. I did read on feathersite that the d'Anver roosters are notorious for being human aggressive but they are so small it is just funny if they attack you

Candace, I think you have advanced chicken math! Trigonometry or maybe Calculus? As long as it doesn't get to the Astrophysics stage, I guess you'll manage fine!

For a gawky stage, those chicks are still cute. I looked on Boggy Bottoms to see the porcelain color. No wonder you chose it! Beautiful! The rooster they show is stunning, particularly with the white beard. Will you be disappointed if you didn't get a rooster?

We are supposed to be in the mid-nineties through the weekend. Too hot for me, but I can't complain (well, at least not on this thread!) since so many others have it worse. The only chicken I worry about is the Gold sex link, who does not tolerate the heat well.

We had the house and garage all opened up tonight to try to cool things down. Heard a noise in the garage not 10 feet from where we were sitting watching Olympics, and it was a raccoon

, bold as beans! No chance for it to go for the pullets before we scared it off. Let the dogs out to make sure it understood it had wandered into enemy territory. They were so upset! Don't know if it was because the 'coon got too close to their kibble or too close to the chickens, in which case they were protecting their potential dog toys.

Could have been worse, I guess, as we noticed eau de skunk wafting around the back yard a little while later.

Hi Amy,

Thank you so much for the recipe!

Now I need to make some ice cream.....

Bye,

Hi All,

It was 102 or so here yesterday. The Misters are great! I have the chickens vitamins with electrolyte this morning.

I moved my two Dorking X AM pullets in with the layers last night. There is no blood yet and it seems like the more pure looking Dorking Pullet just want to get out of the yard! At least there are two of them so they can keep each other company.

Ron
