Pam - sorry you lost the chick.

I had a broody serama a few weeks ago, she ended up with three chicks. On their first day out of the coop, I could only find MamaHen with two. I'm not sure if the third chick found a way into the next door run, or just got too close and was snatched through the wire (serama chicks are very tiny). But I discovered the cockerels in the next pen playing keep away with it's body. Poor little chick.

Oh, how sad! That's what I was thinking, that I would find the body because I know 2 other hens fly up over the wall and lay their eggs in the hay but this hen is pretty vicious so they keep their distance but when I found the racoon jumping over the wall the hen was totally quiet so I was thinking that the racoon didn't see her. Maybe I should leave the cat food out for them so they leave my chicks alone!

On a good note, I sold two of my Polish roos today!

Does anyone on this thread breed (or know of someone that breeds) Quail d'Anvers? I know where to get black or lavenders, but prefer the quail color and patterning. I want to get fertile eggs for incubating next month. I've contacted 2 people and never heard back from either.

Better yet, I would love to buy quail d'Anver pullets. Even though they are tiny, they still probably crow........

"Squeak-A-Doodle-Doo".........

This is a picture of a quail d'Anver hen from this years state fair:

These are adorable! At first glance, I thought it was a bantam EE. (Do they lay blue eggs?) If the roosters really did go "Squeak-A-Doodle-Doo" I might be tempted to keep some myself. Good luck with your search. Very pretty birds!

I checked out the d'Anver club of America website and there is a breeder in Visalia, California. Sandy Bosman-Holcomb. Her email address is [email protected].

I hatched 3 porcelain d'Anver chicks from shipped eggs a few weeks ago and LOVE them!!! I have been wanting some for a long time!!

Here is a picture of two of them at a week old ~ Their faces remind me of baby owls

Yes, they have cheek muffs like EE's, but I think they lay tiny, white eggs . The man showed us with his fingers...only about 2 inches long, so you might need 2 or 3 for breakfast.

On the positive side, I've read that they are good winter layers when LF slow down. And, they can be added to a LF flock without worry. There really isn't much info on the d'Anvers but my son and I think they are just too cute to pass up.

Oh-they are precious!!!!!!!!!

Sandy is one of the people I tried to contact. But, it looked like that website hasn't been updated for many years, so her contact information might have changed or she may not be breeding them now??

Did you get your shipped eggs from someone here on BYC? I'd love to know who they were and find out if they have quail d'Anvers.

They are lovely! Is the Stargazer chick doing well? Need to do some research, but are all d'Anvers bantams? Yours are, right? This might be another breed added to my long wish list. Fuzzy faces!

The Ameraucana girls are doing fine. The wheaten/buff cross (Cam named her Poppy, she's so orange!) is quite a bit bigger than "Wheatie" (named so by both boys) but Wheatie is the favorite, second only to Monkey the EE. The babies (they still peep!

) spend the day with the big girls in the chicken yard, but have not ventured near the coop yet. Still carry them to quarters in the garage every evening. Waiting for them to get a bit larger before putting them in the coop with the mob (some of whom are still quite cranky with the hormones- I can sympathize!

). Only waiting on 3 more of the 9 to start laying. Even the white Leghorn is getting a fluffy butt! Soon...

Hope it's not too hot up your way! Take care!

Ha, my LF girls are still laying small eggs, not much bigger than golf balls! Good to know the d'Anvers can be mixed with LF. Both my boys love the bantams, so I think I will try some the next time there's room in the coop. My wish list keeps growing!

I would recommend Boggy Bottom Bantams http://www.boggybottombantams.com/ for hatching eggs and chicks. You will be amazed when you go to their website. They have every color imaginable

I have heard very good things about them from other people who have bought from them. I bought my eggs from a BYCer but there were problems that indicated the parent birds were not being fed right and were vitamin deficient. I love mine so much that I am going to order porcelain eggs from Boggy Bottom Bantams when the weather cools down.

Hi LYNDA

Glad to hear your girls are doing well! The wheaten pullet will be smaller than the buff. The buff color in the Ameraucanas came from buff Orpingtons which are larger birds and that is why your buff x wheaten girl is bigger. She will probably lay a bigger egg too. Some of her older sisters I sold to people on the Nevada thread are starting to lay at 5 months! One is laying a sky blue egg and the other a darker turquoise egg. It will be fun to see what color yours lays.

It was supposed to be 103 today but has only reached 101.5 so far. Saturday it is supposed to be 104!!! I have water misters going in all of the chicken pens. How are your temps down there?

I just put 19 bantam Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs in the incubator

I have chicks everywhere! But these are from my friend who bought a trio of BLRWs with me in January and she has only been able to get one chick to hatch from several tries. She gave me 18 eggs and only 2 chicks made it to hatch. They are adorable! and I love the 3 pullets I hatched from the same lady we bought the trio from (one is in my Avatar) so I want to build up a flock of them.

The star gazer chick is doing well. In fact, now that they have feathered in I can't tell which one it is!!! They are going through a gawky stage right now. I don't know why but I think all 3 are girls. Here is a picture I took of them last week. I did read on feathersite that the d'Anver roosters are notorious for being human aggressive but they are so small it is just funny if they attack you

Thank you so much, Chickee. I think I'll take 2 of your suggestions........1. Order from boggybottombantams, and...........2. Wait until the weather cools to incubate.
