California - Northern

I've been thinking the same thing. I need one that's black for lighter colored chicks and one that is a lighter color for the black chicks. I have a couple pieces of medium blue fabric that I have also used but not sure where I put them after I finished hatching last year. A box would be really nice because I wouldn't have to have Monet monitoring the edges. There is always at least one chick that wants to run full speed towards certain doom! I guess that I could put the boards on the floor and lie down on the floor like Ron did.

Look for an ebay picture box. They are made for taking pictures for auctions. Mary the @The Sheriff has something like that.

I did take pictures using a Chocolate box.

They were all yellow with a little black, the white with more black and the mostly black with white.

I will be interested in seeing how the white with black grow out!

They are so nice!
I am wishfully thinking that it could be a sex link thing! I looked back at my first PP hatch and can see in photos that there were both color varieties but I didn't notice it so didn't keep track of it. It was just so noticeable with this hatch. And then they nicely lined themselves up in color groups when I was photographing them. What good little birds!

Adorable! Two of my most favorite things! Chick and chocolate!

Yes! All 3 hatched overnight!

So out of 8 eggs, 7 hatched ans the 8th one was infertile. Does that make it a 100% hatch rate?

I was able to record the hatches but now have to figure out how to upliad them. Sure would be nice if Ustream had a plan between free and $99/mo. I just wasnt to be able to so a few basic things with it, not "Go Pro"!

Congrats on the most excellent hatch!!!!

As far as I know, they are not sex linked--Barring may be a part of the Genes though. It would have to be autosexing--Sex link requires two different breeds to make the coloring differences.

I think you may get ones that have more white in the coloring.

So upload it to Vimeo or YouTube, then edit it there? Is there away to add it to my archive on Ustream after that?

I use power director to edit and make a wave file. Then I upload to vimeo.

You may need to get the Pro version of Ustream. You get a bunch editing tools. I watched a Tutorial video about it.

Since you use it for finches and etc. it might be worth the cost. The deciding factor would be if the cost of it would help sell birds.

They are out foraging in the sun most of the day, but this particular hen could have problems with processing the natural Vit D. I have to take 10,000 units/day myself for this reason. The average supplement is only 2000. But I think the ones I have are pils, not the liquigels. I'm sure she would love getting an extra goody every day. She is one of 2 that are very friendly.
Mine are out all day too, but I figured this one needed a little extra help. Odd that it seemed to "fix" her after 4-5 days of Vit D, maybe just got things in gear. I'm watching her carefully to see if it repeats. She goes crazy for kale, so I've been giving her extra out of the garden. My guys don't like calf manna.

The calcium pills I give mine are made from oyster shell and have D3 in them.

Not trying to knock Calf Manna, I think it's a great supplement and have been thinking about buying some for my peafowl.

1000

And this is what I use if they're in immediate need of calcium.

The Ca gluconate is what Dr. Pol gives dairy cows that have milk fever. Do you inject it? And how do you get them to eat the pills? Mine are suspicious of new things.

It's also used in birds. I give it orally, but I believe it's also given by IM or SC injection, not sure abour IV injection. As for the pills, grab bird, open beak insert pill, massage pills down into crop.

Some folks use a cage and have it set up so they can change the background by sliding a panel in ands out. With finches you need a perch so most use a branch. The cages can be taken outside in natural sunlight for taking the picture and have a hole the camera goes thru on one end. The bird doesn't see the person taking the picture so it is more relaxed. The cages can also be folded up for storage. I don't think I would be able to get back up if I got down on the floor to take pics!

I generally only stream a grand total of may 4 weeks a year so $99/mo is just too steep. It would be nice if they would offer a $20-30/mo one that would maybe let you use the tools but still have ads or limit recording time stored, etc.. Is Power Director a downloadable program?
