California - Northern

I think it has been 2 weeks now but I had one of the local cab drivers come into work in a van, he usually drives a car. He had just hit and killed a black horse that got loose and ran right in front of him. Police told him he was lucky he didn't end up with the horse in the front seat. He told me he wasn't feeling very lucky.

Hi everybody!

It's been a long time since I posted anything - hope everybody's doing well.
Things have been a bit rocky here, but DH is finally done with chemo and doing well, so maybe things can get back to normal-ish.

And I'm looking for some white call ducklings - do you guys know of anyone nearby who has some for sale?

Bigger vehicles have a better chance. Small ones not so much. Even deer, which are smaller, do impressive damage as well

Wb also!
I have french muscovies that are the exact opposite of calls in every way except they also are white and poop a lot! Walt however is one of the best breeders in the country so he is a safe bet!

Thank you so much! We are super excited about getting to hatch some more babies :) Bless you for your kindness! I plan to get it going tomorrow if I can.

Big day for us here at the farm!

Aside from normal 4 kids chaos, we tried cleaning out the play house aka broody house. It's mostly done.

Started the wheat grass.
Started the BOSS to soaking.

Met Karen @sewandgrow when she brought over a brand new incubator to try! WOW! Thank you so much - we shall have fun with this

Not sure if I trust the new parts yet for the kaput incubator. Will probably run it for a day. Unplug it, run it again and do that for a few days to make sure it stays stable.

Had a young family come buy 8 chicks. It's always so fun to have families over - the littles love the chicks!

Went to candle the eggs from the kaput incubator. When I found the bator it had spiked to 104.5. Unplugged it to cool off and plugged it back in, only to have it spike to 108

Of course it was very full of eggs. A friend said that he had room in his bator so I took them over. During candling I discovered that one of my EE's is avoiding the roosters or is infertile (is that possible?) as the same colored blue eggs were all blanks. Anyone want to guess how many of the eggs died? Well, included the 4 bulbs, I removed a total of 10 eggs from 50.

Super happy and thankful that my friend let me put the eggs in his bator. So many chicks saved!

Just to see if the heater would turn off, I plugged in the bator and it got to 114 before I unplugged it.

BIG EVENT. My son fell in love. He's 14 so this is funny.

He saw MF D'uccles for the first time. He's cracking me up. He totally wants them! I've always liked LF and dual purpose birds so the concept of bantams escapes me. But I want him involved so it looks like we'll be learning about useless (now don't get all wound up!) ornamental chickens.

Came home and enjoyed the incredible sunset. Fed the children. Doing chicken chores discovered the MFL cockerel had eloped with one of the pullets.

Did I mention USELESS chickens?

Either that or we had a theft. No sign of predators. My son is pretty sure a human was responsible for tearing back all the bird netting but I don't know. Hopefully tomorrow they come back. We went with flashlights and hunted but this is a big area with lots of trees.

For some reason Google chrome isn't working and I can't access my emails. The internet is having severe difficulties and I can't access FB (kind of important as I have customers!) and BYC will barely load. We are talking a minute to go from one page to the next.

Thank goodness my husband is coming home tomorrow!

Like I said. A big day, we shall see what tomorrow brings :)

If chrome is freaking out try firefox. They rarely both have issues with byc and facebook. If that still sucks see how evil it will be to reload your phone software.
