Oh! Forgot I was also going to say @lawatt if they do get too cold I pop them in the incubator. They have to touch the brinsea and that might be hard for a passed out chick. But I bet the ambient temps are high atm with all those bodies there.

yes, it will be crowded for a few days, until i can move the oldest ones outdoors, so hopefully they are warming the silly one up. i wish i could stay home to keep an eye on them today!

I got to go 2 years ago I LOVE the expo! This year my man will be back I hope to go again. I went by myself with 3 kids and my 3 year old did not want to walk and I forgot my stroller and had one arm full of stuff.. so I had little to no fun. He was on his leash and made me drag him.. literally He would not stay on his feet. He would just lay down face fist. Next time I am taking the stroller and not going alone.
I have memories like that & am so glad they are in my past, but beware the times flies quickly & before you know it they will be grown & off so try to hold on to all those memories & you will be able to mesmerize them in years to come......LOL

Good morning! I woke up at 4 this morning to check on a hatching chick. It is one of my Langshans and true to form was the last to hatch. I have two more Langshan eggs that show no signs of activity. Last night was day 22 so I'll leave them in there another day or so. I set 25 eggs to hatch and 23 hatched so not bad. The breeder who sold me the Langshan trio told me that she hatches the eggs on their sides so I tried that this time. There was a lot of football going on in there but it seems like they hatched better on their sides instead of big end up in cartons which is the way I have done it up to now. The majority of the chicks are Pita Pintas. I love seeing a brooder full of little yellow chicks with black markings! They are so cute!

Maybe I should get some of those Pita Pintas when we got to lunch. My brooders are empty I already sold the last hatch.

She is adorable!!! What kind is she?
So glad you asked Debi....I too wanted to know but thought maybe I should have known & didn't keep up..........LOL

she long ago got up off the remaining eggs, since she has three little chicks that did hatch -- so i'd put them in the incubator, but no sign of any life, and in fact i'm pretty sure all three were clears. so they got taken out last night (end of day 24, when the chicks in the nest hatched early on day 21)

yes, but important qualifier: EVERY egg from my own flock that i've put in the RCom has hatched, with the exception of a few clears -- I've only had trouble with shipped eggs, to the problem is clearly not with the incubator. and these past few weeks have been staggered hatches, which have worked out unexpectedly well (first group of 6 hatched 3/4, then 4 more on 3/17, and now 12 on 3/25).

now the incubator only contains 17 shipped isbar eggs, set on friday 3/21 -- they've been sitting in a carton so the hatching babies wouldn't kick them around, and i'm hoping the stillness has helped their air cells settle/reattach -- will be interested to see how they do!

and when i checked in on the brooder this morning, one of the new babies was out from under the EcoGlow, and had gotten weak with the cold -- popped it back underneath, hopefully it wasn't too far gone that it can warm up and recover. silly baby!
I had a nice fat Marans get out from under the eco glow the first night & get chilled. I found him in the morning flat on his tummy barely moving. He didn't make it. Why he got out from under it I don't know. There was plenty of room in there.

I borrowed a big Rcom 50 the first year that I hatched chicks. I loved it but it was too expensive for me to buy one. Now that I've spent money on a Genesis, a cabinet hatcher, and a 1602 Hovabator off of CL, I guess I could have bought an Rcom instead. I think that it was the thought of laying out all that money at one time that kept me from buying one.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, if money wasn't always an issue...... I would never have gotten my Brinsea cabinet except I asked for it as a birthday/Christmas present when Brinsea was having the holiday sale. The R Com I have was my $125 deal from a breeder than tried it once & didn't like it & then you had problems with it too. Dyann Blaine told me the fix on it & it is now working great at no cost to fix. My new Brinsea Octagon 20ex is only because all my years working for the phone company & earning free stock paid off with an unexpected dividend check that I took advantage of & after searching everywhere, Craigslist, Amazon, Ebay, Brinsea themselve's had a special on a combo of the incubator & the humidifier that beat everyone else's price. By the way the new egg candler works great I can even see in my Marans eggs.

Interesting. I have wondered why eggs aren't incubated on their sides. Broody hens don't stand the eggs on end when they are sitting on them.

Speaking of egg position, @ronott1 remember our conversation about storing hatching eggs small end up? I started doing it that way, after you mentioned it, and not turning them. Do you think that has had any effect on hatching - either good or bad?
Good Question!

they may be hatching a bit better. I will keep watching. The Delawares are very good little hatchers though. Hen W33 is doing very well for the Dorkings.

and as a p.s., i just lifted up the EcoGlow to see how the kids underneath are doing, and they're all standing and wiggling and looking happy, including the little black one that got chilled (well, there are three blacks, and i'm not sure which is which, but they all looked good).

hurrah, i can finally get myself to campus this morning! running late...

OMG....this one is adorable!!!! I didn't know they came in this color!

She is my friendliest girl and follows me everywhere. She tugs on my pant leg in the morning when I am getting their feed out. The d'Anver hens are super calm and love to be held.

You should go to Boggy Bottom Bantam's website and look at all the cool colors he has created. 35 I think.
