I candled them all, and could not really see 2 yolks. But they were all laid the same day they shipped do are VERY fresh and don't have much of an air cell visible. I am letting them sit and will candle again before I set them. They were packed very nicely and appeared to have been handled fairly gently...no dents or marks. I have a great carrier who brought them to my front door and actually had them right side up!

Does anyone going to the Red Bluff show tomorrow have Runner Ducklings for sale or know of anyone who does?

Hi, Audio51,

Walt, fowlman01, has Runner Ducks, which as I understand, they are different ages; and some might be the age you are interested in. I think he is getting ready to leave for the show, but, you might still be able to get in touch with him via PM.

How nice you are going to the show; wish you good time..

Lual

Really?  I will see if I can contact him.  But he said something about the Shasta Show....did he mean the NorCal one in red Bluff?

As far as I know, he is going to the Red Bluff show. Please send him a PM for they get transferred to the regular email, which he checks periodically. When away, busy with judging, most likely he does not have time to keep up with the threads on BYC.
His Runner ducks are gorgeous! I hope you can contact him!

My meat bird hatching eggs arrived today....11 nice sized eggs of various colors...and 1 gigantic brown one!!!! I can't imagine how big this girl must have been to lay this. It is at least twice as big as all the others. Does thing mean it is likely a double-yolker?

What breeds (or mixes) are the meat chicks? Could you email the seller, and see if that is "normal" size for that hen?

They are her own mix of Cornish/Rock/Wyandotte. I PM'd her to let her know they arrived in good shape and asked her about the extra large egg. Her reply seemed as if they that was pretty normal for her birds...at least not uncommon. She just mentioned that she hoped the chick would be a pullet because it was nice to have big girls that laid big eggs. I ordered them for meat birds so even if it is a pullet it won't likely be around long enough to lay eggs.

This is interesting to me. How did she market them? I will be having extra dual purpose mixes as well as the eggs they come in and I was consdiering listing them on ebay or here on BYC but was wondering if there was a market and how I should describe them. Can you share the listing?

Kim!!! thanks SO much for writing all this out! you've given me the courage to go ahead and try introducing the now-4-week-olds with the 7-week-olds -- so far, the littles are in the upstairs part of the coop, and the bigger ones are downstairs, and I'm checking on them periodically to see what might happen once they meet face to face -- hoping that they integrate okay, and then once the ones in the brooder are big enough, i'll integrate them in as well.

it's so much quieter in the house already, without the six 4-week-olds kicking up a ruckus!

with great appreciation,
laura

and three hours later -- success!! they seem to be mixing together just fine, a random peck or two but the little kids just shake it off and don't seem at all perturbed. watching everyone now (they are all in a new-to-them pen) to make sure they all know to go up the ramp to find warmer places to snuggle into for the night...

thanks again @capayvalleychick Kim!!
