California - Northern

I was having mine customed mixed at a local feed & seed mill for sometime & it was cheaper & you got to choose your own mix. The kick was to get a good price the price break was at 3000 pounds so I was sharing with others & splitting the order. Another problem was there was no delivery so you had to pick it up & it had to be paid for & picked up all at the same time. Getting everyone co-ordinated to do that becomes problematic when you have people coming from different areas with different schedules....................... Gees.....there are some advantages to being old & retired I guess.....LOL

yes i can understand that trying to work with many different people might not be ideal,
and i had also had no idea about having to buy that much, i was thinking either 1 ton , 1/2 ton, or even 1/4 of a ton,
picking up would probably not be a problem since i could get a heavy duty truck and a trailer, getting it to where i need it after would probably require me to use lots of buckets and wheel barrel haha

I just have to say this place is amazing. Ive been able to get lots of questions answered just by some simple searching

It looks like after our aborted attempt to get the Delaware's outside this weekend will be good for it. I really didn't want to start the adventure outside with mud soaked chickens

That's a great deal! I never find anything good like that. We have a TSC, but it is down the hill in Chico and I will not be down there for a while. We have only 1 feed store in Paradise and they charge about 50% more for just about everything. Besides....I couldn't use my Amazon gift card there...

im sorry that info would have helped answer my questions im in Sacramento area.

hope everyones flock is doing ok i got some chicks that are kinda sick after these days from the storm :-(

I'm sorry you to hear about the babies. This wacky weather really messes with all of us. I've only got one outside brooder going right now. I was checking on them (obsessively) regularly during the storms. The rest of the littles are still in the indoor brooders.

I wouldn't mind doing that again, but I need to wait until we move so I have somewhere secure to store it. That was a real moneysaver, plus we got to do a little socializing :)

Wouldn't they die and effectively end their broodiness?

Wow that sounded snarky! It's actually a question! I've never had one stay broody so I don't know.
I had this happen to my little silver Ameraucana last year. She kept going broody or staying broody so I gave her a few eggs. They were due to hatch right during that really hot spell we had last spring. One disappeared, one was eaten by someone at hatch, and the other chick I had to take away from her because it was so hot in the coop that it was not doing well. That still didn't break her. I finally persuaded her to give it up and then she died a few days later.

That was sort of my plan too when I saw the forecast. Should be a beautiful weekend for introducing them to the wide world.

I agree, this is a great site & this thread is my favorite by far.

there symptoms are just that they are not as active and they are peeping a lot probably bc they are cold. but i did notice that some of them are like fluffy or fluffing their feather again this might be bc they are cold hopefully with sunny skies today they will warm up and do better
