I have lost a pheasant & a chicken to broodiness. I have another one trying & I have been physically pulling her off.
I use Nasco in Modesto Debi. If you want me to pick things up for you & bring them at lunch I can do that.

Nice! I don't know anything about the event other than what's on the website . I use them a lot for homeschool items and find their farm and ranch, science, and arts and crafts very reasonably priced with super customer service . Always willing to support a co like that:-)

Thank you, Karen! I just ordered some of their catalogs. I may just need to take a field trip down there! Want to meet me there some time this summer?

I see that they have some warehouse sales scheduled. They also have coupons that you can print out!!!

OK, so that's the trick, think it-not say it out loud. I don't think it would matter, my family already knows I'm crazy when it comes to feathered cuties.
I woke up this morning to one chick hatched in my Genesis. I set the Langshan eggs a day earlier than the rest because they have been about 24 hours behind my Pita Pintas in hatching. So, I assumed that this first egg to hatch was a Langshan. It was pipped last night but when I checked this morning, a totally yellow chick had hatched. My Langshans are black and the chicks are black with yellow. I'm thinking that this is a Bresse chick and that not all of the eggs that I have been bringing home from the farm are Langshan eggs.

finally got a new incubator - & it's already full of eggs. It's so nice to have an incubator that I don't have to tinker with. It works ALL BY ITSELF!!

I had forgotten I have an Amazon gift card I haven't spent yet.....Guess what I will be ordering today. I had been looking at refurbishing my ancient Hovabator, but I have been wanting the one with the big window anyway. I can use the old one for a brooder....
This is probably the wrong group to ask, because they just go get eggs to hatch for their broodies, but...... is it possible that a broodie will never come out of it if they don't hatch or have a baby chick to mother? Is it possible that they could stay broodie indefinitely?
I think even if they would, it would be very detrimental to thier health. They eat and drink very little when they are broody and usually byt the time mine hatch eggs, they have lost considerable weight. I would try to break her as soon as you can. As @ronott1 suggested, get her a couple of chicks to raise or just make her think she has done her job. You can take them awasy from her in a day or so if you don't want her to rasie them.

My hatch is all done too.
Out of 24 orpington eggs set in the incubator, I had 6 clears (chocolate), 2 early quitters (jubilee), & 4 that fully developed but never pipped (jubilee) Of the 12 that hatched successfully, i have 4 lemon cuckoos, 1 chocolate, & 7 jubilee. I lost one of the lemon cuckoo chicks the first night - it had curled toes & splayed legs but I guess there was more not right internally.
They are funny chicks: a little spooky when you first reach for them but calm & kinda dopey otherwise. So round & plump already.
The other 5 chocolate orp chicks under the broody are doing even better.
It's really neat to see them grow up side by side.
My little guys do the same...spook easily when I put my hand in there, but don;t bat an eyelash when the dog watches them very closely

Yeah for the new incubator and cute dog/chick pics!!! I really like my Genesis 1588. I am doing a test hatch on the my new hovabator one with the wafer heater with installed fan. I got it off CL. It was brand new with turner and chick supplies. It cost me $80 so the price was good. But I'm so spoiled with my Genesis and the digital readout. This other one vibrates like crazy and I had to fiddle with the temperature adjustment. I never could get it to read 100 so it's running at 99 degrees. I put some of my PP/CL eggs in there because they are my strongest hatchers. Tonight it will be day 20 so there should be some action in there soon.

I am trying to find the one on Amazon that includes all the rails, but not finding it. I don't think I would ever hatch quail anyway, but if I could the the rails included, why not! I know the online retailers change the price based on where you live, so I think it's about $5 more for me.
