I have about 20 pigeons with mine.

What kind of pigeons? I've heard that its not good to keep pigeons with other birds. I raised some when I was a kid and would love to get have Indian Fantails again.
I can't remember the name of the breed (I want to say king muldoon) but some of them were the size of some bantam chickens.

I was looking into Diamond Doves a little while ago they are so small and very pretty but do not mix well with other birds (save a some finches) and really seem to be more of a cage bird.


Is it crazy that I would love to have my chickens, these and a hawk (not to mention several other variety of birds)?

One turned out to be a Silver Gouldian, which are more valuable than the normal colored ones and are a color I had been trying to produce. I am so glad I gave the eggs to the Societies!

All but one of the pigeons are the wild, feral type, nothing fancy, but I did catch one stray tumbler that decided it liked it here. The majority of them roost with my peafowl, guineas and turkeys at night, but then leave the coop during the day and that's when they're with the chickens. -Kathy

From my understanding you can't intergrate chicks in a npip ca flock. All untested birds need to be far away and no broodies. That is what killed my interest.

Well, that sure wouldn't work for me.

One reason why Im going to have to enclose my chickens is because we have a number of hawks and owls in the area. There is one very pretty, small kestrel that occasionally hunts down the finches and sparrows in our front trees. It will sneak into one of the trees and watch the other tree which is often full of little birds. It will be there for 10 min or more really close to our front window. Then it will dive into the tree and carry off a bird if it can. Its a real pretty orange and blueis color. I haven't been able to completely identify it but its done this maybe a half dozen times over the last year or two. I have no idea where it lives though.

I can always tell when the hawks and owls are roaming the area because the crows and pigeons disappear. Ive seen a couple of turkey vultures (I think that's what they are) sitting on the light poles.

Okay, so some people say it's fine and others say it's dangerous for the pigeons. I'm torn!

It could be dangerous for other poultry as pigeons can get canker (trichomoniasis) and I guess they could give that to the other poultry. In a perfect world I would have separate areas for the different species... Maybe someday, lol.

Maybe you should ask someone in the pigeon forum?
