For those of you with incubators in your bedrooms, phoenix are quiet chicks! I've only heard 6/7 little peeps, it is moving around well just very, very quiet. I'm not used to it, been up since 2:30, it was to quiet.

There always seems to be that one early bird to hatch. I have one lone egg (SLW) on day 21 today from a test hatch for a friend (obviously the young rooster needs more practice!) I usually get several to hatch on day 20, so I was worried, but this morning it has a pip. I'll bet yours will start anytime nowWouldn't you like to start your day with a bubble bath? Hope next ones are better for you.
I'm still waiting for my second phoenix pip to pop. I am starting to get worried about the d'Anvers, they were not as developed as the phoenix eggs at lockdown candling but they were all moving well and still no pips.
He can wait too I just set some crele and my black eggs will be here Monday or TuesdayI love when the head first pops out, then wobbles about as they rest up for the final push to freedom.
My neighbors have free-range guineas. That's the reason I think there is no problem with my 150+ roosters, LOL
Jason, I still had your PM. I'm going to start sorting out the pens this weekend. DH checked all pens to make sure he hadn't left any uncollected eggs anywhere. So now anything laid is fresh for sure (and hopefully not too muddy now). I'd have to check with him to see if the Marans are laying, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. Thanks.

So happy for you Rebecca. What all did you hatch?Remember my hovabator temp spike to 108? Frantic drive to a friend with a cab bator and an available shelf? Transferred 40+ eggs. I can't remember, there were a few extra. Anyway, candled and took out clears, getting us down to 40 exactly. Had about 36 (they move too fast to count!) hatch. That was a better hatch than the one I had before, when there was no temperature spike! To be fair, the hatch just before, the heater was probably having issues because we had cool hatch issues with pipping and dying in the shell.![]()
I'm very excited about those numbers!
Okay Ron....what causes that?Having a bad hatch day, already. I had one hatch last night (this morning), and she was so sticky that I had to pry her off the egg carton. Just finished the early morning chick bubble bath. Poor thing feels much better now. I hope they all aren't like that.
You are too funny Debi..............I have a mental image of you out in your backyard soaking wet. Looking forward to Lunch next week. Did you guys decide on a time?It is pouring outside this morning. I know that we need the rain, but I was discouraged when I saw that it was raining. I should have put on my raincoat and boots before doing morning chicken chores. I did discover exactly how the rain drains off of our corrugated roofing panels on the quail pens. It comes right down the middle so it runs down my back while I'm feeding the chicks. I guess that I won't be lazing around in my PJs and robe today!
I am looking forward to it, too! Is Jules coming with you? I was thinking about heading to Modesto after lunch to check out Nasco. Inquiring minds are so curious about a store with crafts, educational supplies, and farm supplies! You are too funny Debi..............I have a mental image of you out in your backyard soaking wet.
