It can be very depressing to go to the chicks section this time of year at some places. Others are great and take very good care of them...or they have enough people buying chicks that they don't hang around long.Just got back from buying feed... that was depressing. dead chicks, tons of chicks with severe pasty butt.Sigh...![]()

I used to foster for Border Collie Rescue of Northern California(great rescue. I now foster dogs for a different rescue since BCRNC no long has foster homes north of Stockton) and today I got a package in the mail from the president of the rescue...she sent me a giant stuffed chicken. I love it...made my day!!

Adorable! What a great lady!
They should stop once they get used to it. Interesting that it is the chicks who are with the most company that are complaining. I would have expected it to be the Marans kicking up a fuss.Well, I just picked up some chicks...due to a bad hatch I only got 3 of the 7 that I was supposed to get, so I'm waiting for his next bath to hatch then I'll get the rest. I decided that since the Cream Legbar girl, who is about a month old, is nice and calm I would put her, the 2 day-old chicks, and my two 2-3 week old small Buff Polish together in the large brooder and let the two crazy Marans have their own smaller brooder. Well, the Buff Polish are VERY unhappy and are crying as loud as they can. I'm not sure if they're unhappy about being moved to a new brooder, or if they don't like being away from the Marans. Will they eventually stop crying and get used to being in the new brooder?
