They said  short term when we were talking.  Someones chicken has a compound fracture with bone sticking out and the vet wont see it :(.

Don't get me wrong, I love studies like this and would like to know more about it. It was a great find!

Two of the feedstores by me have them every now and then. Farmers has their own breeding stock and the do not vaccinate for Marek's, Silva's also had them, but she didn't know what hatchery they came from or if they were vaccinated.

Farmers feed near Gilroy? Next Monterey trip we might have to stop on our by :)

Question: if lock down is a term chicken veterans don't like , what do you use for the time you stop turning and up the humidity?
I will probably be the chicken veteran (in 10 years) who persists in offending all the other chicken veterans by insisting on using the wrong term. I like the term lock down. Yes it implies not to open the bater. (Some) One needs that constant reminder. "I will not interfere, I will not interfere, I will not interfere." Smack Smack, where is the rope? Tie the hands! It's on lockdown!

I use set for hatching. Lockdown makes too many of us think we can never open the incubator.
Thanks. I am pushing Mario on getting hatching pro up and running so I move eggs in a timely manner, and am looking for a clear and non annoying term!
While I'm sitting here typing, what would you want a hatching app to tell you? It is mostly designed for people who do a lot of staggered hatching and put different breeds in at one time.

Right now it is going to tell you when to move eggs with a phone push from google calendar , and use a color bar on the lock down period so you KNOW if you put Muscovy eggs, not to put chicken eggs in that will have to go into lock down in the middle of that, for example. I'm playing with it telling you how to up the humidity per breed, and air cell picture ( maybe this could be a PITA for pushing) for calendar candling.

mostly it s just so you don't have shrink wrapped eggs in the incubator and put the frigging things in the hatcher at the right time and don't screw up staggered hatch dates.

Yes, Farmers in Gilroy. Silva's is just a few minutes away. Call them first as they don't always have them.

WATCH chicks from there. They get hatchery shipments and if they get a sick one it gets everywhere. I have had to get emergency chicks from there for singles and very few made it. Could be time of year and lots of things, but be vigilant. I do not mean to disparage the business.

It's definetly a buyer beware kind of place. I was going to send a PM saying that, but now that that doors been opened, lol, I might as well back up what you said. Silva's had some really healthy looking chicks when I was there last week and since they've just started selling chicks and have no other fowl there, the risk of disease is probably much lower.

Oh, I misunderstood, I thought they raised their own. I don't want hatchery D'uccles for Nolan. I've seen them and the beards are small. Why start with small beards? Thanks for the heads-up! I know some feed stores try to raise their own stock. We have a small one in Ceres that does.

Quote: I like the term "lockdown" too....and probably for the aame reasons. It reminds me to keep hands off as much as possible

Quote: Will this be an app that holds data? If so, it would be great if it could do things like record when/why eggs quit developing, how you marked the chicks, (band colors, etc), even pictures of chicks so you could compare that to hjow they matured (I know...I'm getting into a whole program now, not an app....

Farmers raises their own and they also buy chicks from Ideal. Silva's has just hatchery chicks, but don't know what hatchery.
