I love your peach bin brooders Karen. I plan to take a bunch of pictures of them in May so that I can make them (or rather ask my handyman to make them) for me.

What are those strange looking chickens in the lower corner of the picture?

You silly girl......You know I think if you are a critter person, you are a critter person & you usually have more than one kind. That is Buddy our old tiny Pomeranian who has since passed & my son's Chihuahua who's name is Cletis D. Troutslayer. They come every Sunday for the family dinner.
I am glad you like my little recycled grow out pen. They have worked well for me.Denny Thomas came up a couple of weeks ago with her flatbed truck & hauled 6 of them home to make little chicken coops from them. Can't wait to see you. 4 of the Mottled Japanese hatched out and are stronger little critters. They are holding their own amongst the LF they hatched with & are running with in the brooder. I was somehow shocked that they hatched all yellow. Just one of them has one small black dot on it's head. I was just sitting out on the porch watching them. I told my husband that watching chicks reminds me of watch an aquarium of fish...........constant motion. They make me giggle.......LOL Can't wait to see you again next month. The party will be here before we know it. My husband & daughter put the first of the 5 picnic tables together that I got at Costco, then another. My daughter said she really enjoyed doing that with Dad. They are such good helpers.
Gotta go I am in charge of making deviled eggs for tonights BBQ dinner.

Hope the birds and bugs stay away from your plums:) The plum/ pluot crop at my house is hit or miss. Some trees are loaded and some are very light this year. But out of 9 trees, I hope to get something after the critters take their " share" LOL.

Just set 45+ eggs in the bator. After this, I will do one more hatch by late May and put my bator away until fall:)

I have 3 incubators full and one is setup for hatching. I will begin hatching Bresse soon and Pinta Pitas after that.

I hope you get some Plums\pluots this year!

I only have one bator. I keep thinking I should get more, but I would get my self buried in chicks, LOL. Already I've hatched around a 100 this year.

Good luck with your hatches:)

We have linoleum on the floor of our coops and painted the walls.  Last fall, DH and Monet white washed the interior of our big coop including roosts with a lime mixture.  We plan on doing that again this spring with our big spring cleaning.

Hi Debi! So, I'm assuming you use the lime as a disinfectant...what is the product? Sounds like our coops are similar...linoleum on floor.

Quote: I thought about not even setting them. Thought maybe I might try to give them away. But no...I put them in the bator. I have never hatched or owned quail. I will probably try sell any that hatch...or maybe have quail dinner once I learn to process..

First roses of the year:)

And some baby duckling cuteness:) We ended up hatching 6, but two didn't live past the first day:( The four left all look different, but seem to be doing well now.

Beautiful roses! and adorable ducklings!

I am embarrassed to admit I have 4 now if I including the old one....

Would the large wooden dowels like are used for curtain rods work? They would be smooth (I have also seen some with scalloping all the way around) and round. They are about 1 3/8" diameter:

After reading all the comments on your query I now don't know if what I considered a great roost is good or not, but the chickens seem to like them.

The Genesis arrived today! Got it set up and stabilizing. Will move the egs to it as soon as it settles. I also got the quail eggs (40 of them) so I guess I will st them too. Can they be incubated with the chicken eggs?
The quail will be hatched & out before lockdown for the chickens. I did both in the big cabinet so I don't know why not. They are sooooo tiny at hatch they couldn't hurt anything running around in there. The cabinet had a non turning shelf to put the tray on for hatching so it worked out well. If this is your first time with quail you are in for a treat. They are so cute to watch hatch & scurry around. Hyper little buggers...........LOL

Quote: Mine seem to like the roosts I have too...just need more of them once I get a bigger space.

The info I got with the eggs and the incubator said 23-24 days for the Bob Whites. The chicken eggs were set last Sunday evening and the quail eggs were just set today so the chickens shouls be out first. They will be moved to the Farm Innovator for hatch. It is the first time for me, so I can hardly wait to see them!

All my Angel Face are in full bloom right now & the front yard smells like heaven I'm sure. I wonder if most of us "Chicken Lovers" are also gardeners??? I have loved the outdoors & plants since I was a small child. I hesitate to call me a "gardener" ( true gardening requires way more work) I am definitely a plant lover that lives in a jungle though & I like a little of a lot of plants.....LOL. Through the years of trading & plant sharing with other garden friends I am pretty much over run....LOL

I am so glad you set them. I had Coturnix quail the Jumbo Browns & the Texas A & M whites. Such fun as babies but really sticky poo so they need to go outside as the grow. ......Phew Yew.!!!!! LOL

Yup, bobwhite actually take longer than chicken eggs. The worst thing, bobwhite are slaughter age more like 4 months. Another advantage to coturnix, they are ready to breed or eat at six weeks.

But I hatched them too and still keep them. I love their call. Also, I find their eggs easier to peel when I'm boiling them for a salad or deviled eggs. Coturnix eggs are easier to crack to use fresh (frying, poaching, etc)
