I have UoA Blues, Partridge Penedesenca and UofA x Crele Penedesencas hatching.

I also got a couple of pictures of the Splash UofA and the Crele Pene x UofA Blue 4 week old chicks that are keeping my Cross Beak Delaware company.

Partridge Pene Chicks, look like 2 pullets, 1 cockerel and one that is likely a cockerel:

This us a 4 week old UofA blue Splash chick. This one decided to fly into the towel cupboard:

This is a UofA x Crele Pene 4 week old chick. There are peas in the comb which is associated with the blue egg shell gene. This one will be a nice OE cockerel. It had a nice white spot on it's head at hatch.

I have those lovely dark brown layer eggs separated from the green & olive eggs too so I could mark the chicks according to their egg colors. The Ams are in their own little basket too. Those seed tubes are fantastic for doing that in the Genesis. I will probably pull the one with the 4 Marans babies in the morning as this is hopefully going to be a huge hatch.

Please tell me more about the seed tubes.

Well here is the good news...on Day 16 my bantam embryos look to be doing great. :clap

The bad news is that after dark I put the eggs in a lovely private broody box and put Petunia in with them.  She FLIPPED OUT.  :cd grabbed to the hardware cloth of the box with her toes and stiffened her legs as I tried to put her in and once I got her in there she just stood by the eggs and did not cover them again.  I gave her about 20 min and no change.  When I opened up the  box...she could see b/c I had a flashlight...she bolted and made like a crazed thing for the pen exit.  I got her and calmed her and popped her back on her original nest and slid her eggs back under her and she settled down nice as you please.:he

Chiqita has talked about  broody hens being attached to the nest so far that has been totally true for the only two I have ever tried to move to a broody area. They both were possessed! So I guess I will just keep an eye out on friday and Sat. I"ll have a brooder ready for the babies if there is trouble.

And...as if that isn't enough broody drama..remember the dorking in my pic?  Well she is now co-brooding Petunia's eggs. I moved her off and she went back twice.  I actually hope she is serious.  I have been saving Del eggs in case someone else decides to brood.

Remember how I fixed up my one coop to encourage broodies?   None of my broodies live in that coop.:idunno

I feel your pain! So frustrating when they don't go along with the plan. Grrr...

And speaking of your "danged dark eggs"

, out of the 4 pures I put in lockdown I have 2 huge chicks out already walking in the tube plus 1 zipped and 1 pipped! The layer pen eggs are also starting to pip along with some of my Bantam Sumatras. I'm going to have a restless night

Tomorrow is official hatch day for them as well as the D'uccles for @Coopcommander / @CackleJoy !

Yeah for the embryos! Hopefully everything will work out for Petunia and her babies. We moved a broody out of the nest box and into her own private area last night. She settled right down on her eggs but was having a fit this morning when she couldn't get out of the door. We have a series of gates that can be opened or closed so we were able to let her out into a bigger area that was still separated from the other chickens. She ate some sprouted grain and mealworms then went right back to her nest. We were gone all day but when we got home she was happily sitting on her eggs. Tonight when I checked her, I could hear a chick peeping! We moved her just in time! So excited to see her chick/chicks in the morning!

The blood red moon lunar eclipse is supposed to start at 10:58 tonight and be total at 12:06 AM. Mars is also the closest to earth that it will be for 26 months. DH told me that it will be close to the moon and should look orange. It is times like this that I wish that I had a telescope!
