So far nothing. They all look fine. Just sleeping a lot being a baby is very exhausting apparently.
Its all that growing!

I can't imagine myself dubbing but DD did think about getting a cock and breeding her quail OEGB's. Since cockerels can be shown undubbed it gives you a chance to have them evaluated by a judge before it's done. You also don't want to dub to early since wattles and lobes may grow and have to be done again.Yes, I'm thinking ahead. I purchased my breeding cockerel already dubbed.

I agree on the too low but too high for my penedesenca messes me up too. I like the 30-40% range the first 18 daysThis is lockdown day for the Easter Hatch A Long. Still, lots of hatching going on there too already
I am starting to wonder if humidity that is too low during incubation might cause the membrane or shell to be too tough for some breeds. It might be better to use humidity closer t the traditional 55% sometimes for the first 18 days.

On the new babies!
I just looked that up. -- I didn't know what it was-- I don't think I could do it. I'm not a fan of that kind of thing anyway though. That is so crazy that they have to be dubbed for show.Anyone here who knows how to dub OEGB's? I've been trying to make myself not be squeamish about it, but ever since I heard that it isn't rare to have a bird die from blood loss, I don't even want to try it.

Oh, I am so glad it worked out!Quick shout out to @Audio51 and @PetRock ! Tonight I used your suggestions ...got nesting material from her nest put in some of the eggs then brought the rest and Miss Norma is settled in like a champ In the broody box. Thank you both so much for your help. I also candled the 8 egg under her 7 CA Grey cross,,,black sex links.. and I think 1 Dorking cross could be a SL depends on the daddy...anyway all are kicking vigorously. Day 17 and all of the eggs under booth broodies are still good to go!!!![]()

When my son was in 4H, his primary project were rabbits. He kept a herd of around 200 and we went to National Convention every year. In 1994 (I think that was the year), he won best in show in Tulsa, OK. Anyway, the poultry was a secondary project, he only kept around 50-100 birds. I've worked at rabbit shows for the last 20 years. This year when the State sent my contract they asked if I'd be willing (for a little extra $$$ of course) to complete all the leg & sanction reports for both poultry and rabbits.
Why not? I've been working at the State Fair for the last 20 years. We've always said that people that like to work at Fairs must have a little carny blood coursing through their veins, LOL. It's certainly not for the $$$ or glory. You have to just love the behind the scenes atmosphere.
I am so glad there are folks like you who are will to do this sort of thing. My daughter was in 4H for several years and raised a couple of market lambs and mini lop rabbits. We also raised bees for a couple of years. All were great experiences for her and she loved it thanks to great people like you....
Quote: I had 4 of 9 broody all at the same time until a couple of days ago. The one raising chicks now feels she has done her job at about 5 weeks out. Another hatched 5 chicks, but I found one dead and another extremely chilled and looking dead the next morning. I was able to revive that one ans brought them all inside to a brooder. Another is on 10 BCM eggs due on the 25th. WHen I moved that one to the broody coop the 4th one suddenly decided she was no longer broody....which was just fine with me.
Ohhhh....you are in soooo deep! There is no hope for you now......Thinking of getting 4 more chicks from the feed store today. Do you think they will be ok with the 2 week old Buff Orps.![]()
Quote: I certainly could not resist them! What kind are th ones on top?
Move them both in! I lost 5 of my Mottled chicks to an aggressive banty. Are they both the same color? Now that 2 of 6 eggs hatched, momma is overly protective of one and aggressive towards the other. Should I separate mom into her normal coop and just let the chicks live in the brooder? Only 2, all the others are quitters.
Just checked on my broody mama! She has 5 chicks! The last one hatched in the night or early this morning. Its biological mama is one of my Ameraucanas, either Lavender or Blue Wheaten. It is 24 hours younger than the oldest chick and when I checked on them just now, Mama and 4 babies were out of the nest box in a corner of the brooder area. Poor littlest baby was crying in the box. Annie was clucking to it but it is too young to follow her out of the nest. I tucked it under her and hope that she stays put for a while. I may have to bring it in and put it under a heat lamp for a few hours.![]()

Lucky for me, TSC did not have any chicks when I was in there today..
Baby sister is cute and all but are cramping my big girl style.I wonder if the 2 older ones now feel like big sisters forced to babysit. They seem to tolerate the little ones unless they start demanding recognition of their cuteness.Baby sister is cute and all but are cramping my big girl style.
Cant wait till the tables are turned on them and they go to the del's
I'm thinking of adding a roosting board for the bigger ones they seem happy when they perch on the box sides and they don't seem to need the lamp. They avoid it most of the time.
