California - Northern

Ok mario is going from here (sanjose) to sacramento tomorrow. Anyone looking for seremas or bresse? 3 breese and 4 serema. Serema are feathered enough I dont think you can inadvertently kill them but im only guessing sexes. Pm me if so.

I would so take the serama but sac is too far to sneak off to and I'm being watched by a bunch of hawks after flying the coop to nab the pita pinta . (Whom I'm utterly in love with) ah the pain of patience! I already will need another coop mid summer to get the grow outs away from my olandsk breeding coop...

How are you doing? I was worried about you after you came down the mountain to meet me. At least the Pita Pintas are keeping up their end of the bargain!

We are well! This week was busy and then some. Aperently the outside spring cleaning was good cause the baby moved out of breech position. :-))))) took the pita pintas, faverolle, bresse, fbcm, and od out to the spare dog crate. They were in heaven . Everyone came to say hello and they ran in and out introducing themselves. Charles Wallace ( od cockerel ) supervised visitation very nicely. So happy to have the friendly flock. Now to find a coop... Dh WILL pass out if I add one more thing to his plate.

It's hard when neighbors don't get along. And when you're family, there could be grudges for generations to come.
You are so right. Fortunately we get along great. Unfortunately to keep it that way I can't be upfront about the rooster issue.

but truly it is because my uncle is so kindhearted regarding animals that he looses perspective.

@Ali707 Boooooo on Texas! Is it for your company? I am really sorry that you will be moving somwhere that is not your cup of tea. I hear nice things about San Antonio and about Austin. Hopefully you will be close enough to visit those spots. The worlds largest water park is outside of SA it is called Schlitterbahn (sp) and it is on my bucket list.

Looks like you already have good leads on homes for your girls and your mealworms.

If you have time to check in don't let the Northern California label stop you

was away from my computer pretty much all day yesterday! so trying to catch up here -- @tommysgirl yes last year i had a whole bunch of broodies at once, and their reactions to each other/chicks varied widely -- one extreme was my lovely SPPR who actually served as "aunt" to the little campine chicks when their broody mom (a light sussex) was a bit too ambitious in their first week re: free-ranging all over the place and never giving them a rest -- the other extreme was my basque girl who attacked another broody & her chicks, and killed at least one of the latter.

I don't see any way of predicting what their reactions will be, so am just seeing what comes again this year -- right now have two broodies, currently sitting in nest boxes next to each other & incubating eggs that will hatch at the same time -- but is i see any just-hatched chicks available at the feed store this weekend, i might try to giving a couple to the one girl who's already been sitting for 3 solid weeks now. i think having chicks of slightly different ages might help to reduce the impulse to compete/attack? it's worth trying, anyway.

There is your fertility problem! Your rooster is thinking too much about the nature of time and microcondrial invasions to do the deed!

Only name head roosters after characters who know how to henseminate!
:D

How's everyone's hatches going?

So far 9 of the 19 d'Anver chicks have hatched with 2 more pips on day 21. 6 chocolate mottled, 1 solid chocolate and 2 porcelain. I have some pips in the next batch of LF eggs that are on day 20.

d'Anver chicks~ What is it about mottled chicks that is so cute?!
