California - Northern

I have two 15 wk old buff EE pullets (hatched with the two Lynda got from me) available from my buff project to improve egg color. So far the offspring from my pure wheaten rooster x pure buff Ameraucana hens are laying sky blue and turquoise eggs. I realize you are sort of far from me though

those sound so beautiful!! if i lived closer i'd be tempted myself, although at this point, the last thing i need is more chickens...

How do these combs look?

This is Solara

Luna

Another one of Luna

Apparently I have a lot of Luna lol

Solara

Pretty girls! The combs are probably pea combs, it's a little hard to be sure. Ron probably knows.

Here's the best shot I have showing a pullet pea type comb. Monkey is around 8 wks here.

This is Monkey from today. Hard to see, but the center ridge is a bit bigger.

Here are the girls I got from Candace (Chickee). The 2 pullets she still has look like the orange girl.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a good place to grab EEs? If I breed my BCM rooster to one of my EE hens- would I get an OE? Would all their offspring throw green eggs...or might I still get some that throw blues? Since I already have 2 EEs that we like- I was thinking maybe just using these ladies + one of my BCM roosters for more Olive EEs?
Amy Beth, I have easter eggers from John Brekken who sells them on CL down in sacramento area. I just sold a dozen hatching eggs but I do have some in the incubator and I will be putting in about 8-10 more tomorrow. I'll try to post pics of my layers and the roo as I do need to shoot some photos tomorrow anyway.
Does anyone know what the post office requires for shipping Live's
temp. wise. I thought it was 85 or less on both ends. is this wrong or any ideas?

Thought I was waiting till September but My Emp's may be headed my way as early as Wednesday. Leaving South Carolina Tuesday if the weather is good.
Looks fairly cool for us but still upper 80's to low 90's
I know I have received chicks from greenfire when temps were well into the 100s, so i can't imagine it matters for chicks. Maybe for big birds?

HI Everyone! I am from N. California! Near Sacramento!
I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find juvenile American buff geese at? I am hoping to add a few to our little farm.
Thanks for any help!!

Happy belated Birthday Amy Beth.

I hear you on the smoke, it's really bad hear too. Slows business when you can hardly see across the street. I think we're going to have to get use to it, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

And how did everyone know it was Amy Beth's birthday. Where does it show?

Ron, I am so sorry about your having to rehome your chickens! Are you able to keep some? Is it just roo's? Wow, that's just devastating! You seem to be taking it pretty well.

Meg, I love multi quotes!

I ended up with 13 Polish chicks, although each broody still has eggs. One has one egg and the other one has three under her. I removed 4 that were clear or early quiters, but they both are on and off the eggs so I probably will take them in the morning and let the moms get out and about. The EE broody already took hers down the 2' high ramp and right outside!

I still have an EE on 9 eggs so hopefully we'll have more colored eggs. I lost my really good Tiffany blue layer (I think Sunny hatched from her) but I have beautiful moss green to light green.

I also have several beautiful EE Cockerels that are 3 months. I have one that is a very nice cockerel. Nice amount of puffy cheeks, pea comb, incredible feathering and a nice boy on top of that.

Amy Beth, if you'd be interested, I'd trade you EE's with pea combs for Marans. I want dark eggs and see what my Ameracauna Roo would do to the egg color.

Laura, I enjoyed your morning lecture thank you!

I was wondering if there isn't a Goose thread. Maybe even a Buff Goose thread. Maybe you could try there.
