I thought that looked like hard work! It must feel like such an accomplishment! We can hardly wait to settle in somewhere permanent (this place is a rental so all construction is temporary) and build a nice run of breeding pens. @juststruttin has the nicest set up I've ever seen. While we don't have old horse barns to make over, I think we can still use her ideas some. You should look at her website. Truly beautiful!
You are sweet. We built most of our barns/stalls/coops using FREE used garage doors. Call any garage door company and they will more than happily give you free doors, and some will even deliver for FREE since they have to pay to take them to the dumps. Its a win win.

Here is a photo of 3 coops built using FREE garage doors. Each coop is actually a duplex so we have 6 separate breeding pens. Each individual coop is 4 x 4 and each run is 8 X 16. This photo was taken before the divider was set up inside the runs.

How very clever! I didn't get close enough to realize these were old garage doors! Wonderful! Such a good idea - thank you for sharing that. I didn't remember that at all - but then you have so much to see and I WAS trying to fend off my mothers case of chicken frenzy

Not trying to beat a dead horse BUT : does anyone know the ratio for activated oxine for HATCHING eggs?
Revival's directions wash says something about edible egg and I'm not sure if it's all the same
Activated Oxine is too strong for the egg dip. The amount of Oxine for the egg dip is 4 oz. per gallon of water. Go to www.shagbarkbantams.com/oxine.htm. and it has all of the info for "The Many Uses of Oxine" with the amounts of Oxine for all of the different treatments.

LOL!!!! If it is silly you are in good company....we are just a silly group here. We get excited and axious about all sorts of things1
No eggs Vicki???? How can you have no eggs........wish you were closer & you could have some of mine. I have them everywhere......LOL

This new wooden incubator. In the absence of citric acid to activate the oxine, would you just use Lysol spray, let it sit and then wash it down?

I use lysol in plastic and foam incubators and it works without killing the eggs or chicks. It should work in a wooden incubator too.

Do you have a redwood incubator?

My incubator updated in Sacramento about one thirty today!

Last update was about 4:30 am Thursday in St. Paul.

Hopefully they get it here by tomorrow. And yes, I realize it's silly to be this anxious to have it when there are no eggs to put in it.

What kind of eggs do you plan on setting?

How do you guys refill the water trays in the Gensis 1588? I had to take out the turner/eggs because I couldn't see the trays otherwise. Since my table isn't big enough to hold both the Gensis AND the turner(just a small little table that it's setting on) I had to balance the turner on the edge of the Gensis, and that's a bit dangerous for the eggs. I don't want to have to do that again, but without taking out the turner I can't see how full the water tray is, even when shining a light in it.
if the trey is arranged right you can open it and fill it easily I fill just the first tray the first 18 days before adding a cup
