Hi all,
I've been wanting to post here for a bit and finally thought of a legit question to ask instead of, "You like chickens!? Me too!!"

Where do you get your feed from? I live in Sonoma County and get a #40/#50 bag of Bar-Ale for $20 from a little feed store. Haven't bought from anywhere else, tried Ace and they have the same stuff for $40.

Posted here because I'm not set on brands or stores, but more looking into lower costs and maybe local mills.

Can you get King Feed? Their Freedom line is amazing.

I do not know of one.

*Oozing* with excitement here... The six peafowl eggs that were shipped from PA to me appear to be viable! Still a long ways to go, but none were clear!

My incubator updated in Sacramento about one thirty today!

Last update was about 4:30 am Thursday in St. Paul.

Hopefully they get it here by tomorrow. And yes, I realize it's silly to be this anxious to have it when there are no eggs to put in it.

Not silly at all! I did the same thing last week and I can't even think about setting eggs until the end of next week when I'm back in town. Didn't stop me from getting it all set up and ready. I'm using the time to track the temperature in my office to see how bad the fluctuations are.

I really want some PapaBrooder BBS Orps so maybe we could coordinate with @BCollie . I'd be willing to do some driving between Chico and Redding.

You are sweet. We built most of our barns/stalls/coops using FREE used garage doors. Call any garage door company and they will more than happily give you free doors, and some will even deliver for FREE since they have to pay to take them to the dumps. Its a win win.


Here is a photo of 3 coops built using FREE garage doors. Each coop is actually a duplex so we have 6 separate breeding pens. Each individual coop is 4 x 4 and each run is 8 X 16. This photo was taken before the divider was set up inside the runs.

I'm not sure. I've been watching Papa's Poultry's FB for more specials. He posted some today, but they're all in bigger batches. I might send him a message asking him about a smaller deal. I haven't hatched eggs in SO long, since I was a kid. I really want some of his Cuckoo Silkies, but would bantam eggs be a bad idea to learn on?

The Golden Cuckoo Marans he has listed sound gorgeous, but I want to see how many of my current Marans are pullets before I get any more. His LF Chocolate Orpingtons are too pricey for a 'starter' hatch, and again I want to see how many of the BBS Orpingtons I'm growing out are pullets that will stay here before getting more.

I think I could probably talk my husband into going to Redding for them, but with a 1 and a 3 year old he wouldn't be too excited about it. If we're making a day of going up and seeing my sister it should be doable though.

I have hatching eggs. Nice thing about the GCMs is that they can be color sexed at hatch.

And I really want some of your GCMs when I have a few hatches down and am more comfortable. They are Beautiful!

Ok I think I need a real cyborg steampunk Cosplay rooster!!

Think we might have our first case of wry neck. This chick would just keep looking at the ceiling and twitching until it fell over. Very odd. Wry neck?

That was last night about midnight.

This morning it looks like it might be trying to die.

Do you all have a go-to for wry neck? An instant cure?

This is one of those tiny Basque from my just-laying pullets who may or may not have been on Corrid when I first started gathering eggs.

Researching wry neck makes me think I should just cull the thing.

That was last night about midnight.

This morning it looks like it might be trying to die.

Do you all have a go-to for wry neck? An instant cure?

This is one of those tiny Basque from my just-laying pullets who may or may not have been on Corrid when I first started gathering eggs.

Researching wry neck makes me think I should just cull the thing.

vitamins with B in it and it takes 5 days or so. The sooner the vitamins are started the better. You will have to hand feed it and give it water until the neck is back straight.

I had one this year and culled it.

So can you guys believe the size of that quail egg!!!! It's next to a olandsk dwarf, next to a New Hampshire red. Checked them for bleeding and everyone looks good .... I was already blown away at how they lay the size they do for how small they are and then this was found!

Really pretty eggs!

Made a road trip yesterday. Would just like to say from tracy: vacaville is not an easy one shot to sac and then back again. But totally worth the drive.
Got 20 cream legbar eggs and 16 jubilee eggs from papas poultry , but before that my husband and I met with me Ovalle and got another 9 BCM eggs. Very nice gentleman (and I did tell him about naming the roosters after him: Pete and Re-Pete)
The previous eggs from him are doing quite well and set to hatch Saturday. He said his are hatching in day 22.
Interesting: he mentioned to not open the incubator but IF you had to in lock down have a squirt bottle to mist the eggs.
I really wanted to improve my blues and get some nice BCM , so I'm happy.
I also have BCM from Adamson acres hatching in 2 weeks too.
I'm excited from here to work with these for my own for many years to come. I really adore the Marans.
My husband did ask if I've got too many chickens because chores are taking quite a while. I replied "yes, but automatic waterers will help with that"
So that's the current project.

I gave poly vi sol, vit E, selenium , and vit b. In my research I found all of those mentioned.
I was going to cull but my 13 ur old son was crying. So I gave it a shot. Actually looked worse the first day. That evening I thought: "ok I'll cull it while he's at
School and make him think it's another chick" . He was coming in from riding motorcycles to check on it (and probably make sure I didn't put it down)
The next day :great! It's doing amazing now!
