California - Northern

Thank you very much. I'll see what I can find tomorrow.
On the quarantine route. Do you have a dog crate that you can cage them in and put them in a garage, laundry or bath room. (Its only a temporary condition anyway)

Possibly even caged in the dog run

I really don't want to sell my incubator. But if I have an infected flock and would be selling infected chicks, what other choice do I have?

Treat them with tylan then follow up with denagard. I can try to PM you some info I got years ago from a breeder trying to save a very rare breed of chicken with mycoplasma. She eventually got a clean flock. I think I still have her posts saved somewhere.

This is if the illness is mycoplasma. It lurks in many flocks and often reappears during times of stress. Most just cull. But with pets it can be much harder. Your eggs in your bator could be disease free. So you might want to find a way to raise any chicks seperate from your adult birds.

I keep my chicks/incubator inside, but won't they still be exposed since I will get the germs on me every time I'm around my flock?

Trisha gives very good advice. Wait and see what happens. Even if they are sick, you don't have too cull if you don't want to. You can close your flock. You could sell eggs from the ones that don't have symptoms. MG is everywhere, so most flocks have been exposed.

Closing my flock is the very last thing I want to do...but then again so is culling. I don't know what to do.

If I get Tylan tomorrow, do I treat right away or should I let the birds wait a few days so I can see how/if their symptoms progress for a possible diagnosis?

it can cure it?  I have heard its un curable but I like the Denagard for sure

I was told denagard can cure the carrier state if used in a preventative program. Treating every few weeks. But, I had problems with fungal and digestive issues when I used it like that. Back then, I was paranoid that every wild bird would give mycoplasma to my chickens, LOL.

Take a deep breath and see what happens. It is too soon to worry about closing the flock. If one dies, send it in for a Necropsy and make sure they test for MS MG. Not all of the chicken respiratory illnesses require a closed flock. If they all recover then you likely are clear too.

The Necropsy if free and you can use the UCD Fedex ID. They will bill you later for it so the money is not up front.

Chin Up!

it could also be the hole flock was not infected but I am no expert on that

there are numerous things that could be causing it.
Are there any byc locals around you? If so maybe someone has Oxine,
you can also try a oxine water solution in a humidifier in the coop at night Oxine may help it in a few days

If they can only pass it on when they have symptoms and you can keep them from having symptoms thats fairly good. But I would only worry if you find you have a lethal mg. Most forms are not leathal and very mild. And most flocks in the us have one of these mild forms.
