Quote: Douglas and Sierra College would work great! What time will you be there? We will get to Roseville about 11:00 and DH is going to look at Motorcycles. We will be heading back most likely sometime between 2 and 4 PM. Would that work for you? Earlier in the time frame is better for us, but we will make it work.

Hi I'm in redwood city.

I'm freaking out. I don't want my chickens to die.

There's a couple feed stores I can call in the morning but I don't know if they'll carry it. I don't know what will happen to them if I can't find the meds they need.
Weigh them. Although I don't have any experience treating respiratory diseases, it's been my experience that birds that are eating, drinking and *not* losing weight don't die. It's not usually the disease that kills them, it's dehydration and starvation.

These eggs you're selling... are you selling for human consumption or are you selling hatching eggs? I ask because if you're birds have MG or MS, you shouldn't sell hatching eggs.

@Audio51 I used the screw in ones. They say that you use a 5/16th drill bit but I found that it was too small so I have become adept at widening the hole just slightly by reaming with a sharp knife one rotation at a time till I can get the screw in started. I use a very light touch with the knife.(one time I didnt I made the hole too big. The cool thing about the coke bottle ones is that if you mess up one you don't ruin the whole container. (I suppose you could use plumbers tape around the threads to help the seal too) One cap to one bottle. I put 3 of them in my brooder box.

I also just made a 3 gallon hanging bucket with 4 nipples in it for under my large coop and had to be careful to make sure each one was tight and didnt screw up the bucket on the next one.

Ill probably use a regular water container for the day olds though. They seem to pick it up pretty quick when they are older and easier to teach chicks to drink if you can dip the beak.

My chickens seemed to really like it for the brief period I had it. I did too except for the leaking. I have heard you have to careful who you fuy the nipples from too. Some say the cheap ones from China are more likely to leak. The regular waterers for chicks is so messy I would really prefer not to have those in the brooder.

I also have controversial views on mg ms. I think it is rarely that dangerous to chickens health does make them lay less often. It is considered really bad in the us and a minor thing in the rest of the world. Denagard is also approved for chickens everywhere but the us so I am not fussed about using it.

Baytril is also an effective drug for treating mycoplasma.

Yes, treat. Keep up with the vitamins and etc.

If the birds are already resistant, they will not die even from the bad MG. They could still be carriers so it would be a good idea to have one tested if it dies.

UCD will bill you for shipping if you use their Fedex number. It has cost $18.00 before. If you send one in, use Kathy's thread to get the low down and start saving to pay the cost. You will not have to pay it up front.
They charge by weight... My peahen was $19, but my smaller chicken hen was ~$10.

I want to send a bird in to be tested, but I don't know how I could kill her...will they for sure give you an answer on if it's MG or not if you send in a bird?

I am wondering if a blood test can be run on the birds to see if they have MG?
I'll contact Jeff and see if he has oxine. Would I put that in a humidifier in the coop?
Yes, I believe it can. In fact, one of the pathologists suggested that people draw blood before death and submit that blood in a vile along with the body. He said it would make testing for mycoplasma easier, or at least that's what I understood.
