Thanks, will do! Splash is still acting fine this morning so I think she will be okay making it until Monday afternoon. She still has a droopy comb and probably wet sounding sneezes(did not hear her sneeze, was only out there for a minute) but is acting fine, so that is a good thing.

Okay, you guys have helped me way more than enough for now. I still have a couple questions but those can wait until this evening. Let's talk about something else.

I get to see my girlfriend today for the first time in weeks, AND my best friend is here...so at least there's been a positive side to these couple days. My eggs in the incubator are developing well, but the ones with blood rings still show no veins. I don't expect they will, at least not the Tolbunt egg as that is a VERY clear blood ring. I'm seeing a LOT of movement in some of the eggs, it is such a beautiful thing to see!

I got a phony cashiers check today for the amount of 710 bucks over a $35 hen purchase that was supposedly to be picked up from my house once the check clears. Just wondering if anyone else got one? Maybe we can compare cashier checks.
So he has your name and address? That's kind of scary! Does your bank do a good job of monitoring your accounts? We belong to a credit union and are always quick to catch any unauthorized use of our accounts. I had someone hack into my eBay account one time and try to mail multiple international packages through my account. It was hundreds of dollars worth of shipping but my credit union froze my account before the money went out. It would have cleaned out my account plus some. It was a big mess to clean up but I was so thankful that they caught it!

I love broody hens, especially when I've specialty eggs to hatch. They do all the work. I usually move them to a large dog crate or one of my Rabbit type hutches and give them fake eggs to sit on to make sure they will settle. I had two hens recently go "unbroody" after I moved them. Once they settle, I still let them sit on the fake eggs anther day, before putting the real deal under them.
I just had all 3 of my English Medium Chocolate Orps go broody at once. Two were in one nest and one in the other, they kept rolling the eggs (stealing them) and putting them under each other.
I ended up getting one of those IKEA toy boxes that you assemble, but they are only like 14 bucks - cheap compared to the nest boxes at the feedstore. Turned it on it's side. Gave them 10 Eggs I bought from ebay and they hatched 7 chicks, now their co-parenting the chicks--they all sleep huddled together with the chicks under them. I'm actually surprised that many hatched, the way they were rolling the eggs back and forth, too cute! lol Now Rowdy my Rooster is helping out too.
I haven't done a true co brooding yet but I did have Easter chicks hatch the same day with two different broodies. I get too nervous about the eggs so I have separated everyone into their own dog crate except for my top hen and she will get to stay in her nest box since no one challenges her over it. Good thing too b/c at this rate I am running out of crates. Which is a happy inconvenience
That sounds adorable! I will use a broody hen when I want to expand my flock. Someday I will have more than 2!
ohhh yess. you must have more than 2 and these are just the people to make sure you do.

Thanks. I am hoping the test for MG comes back negative, and I hope Splash makes it until then. I think she will, she's still acting pretty normal and laid an egg this morning. She just needs to make it until Monday afternoon then I can begin treating her.

I am sorry that you are having all of this stress at what is supposed to be such a happy time but am so glad you have friends and celebrations to take your mind off of things. Congratulations on your graduation!

@TommysGirl Thank you!! I am so glad to be done with high school and can't wait to start college this fall. It took me an extra year to finish high school because I fell behind due to chronic health issues but I stuck to it and got straight A's for the last two years. :)

I'm in Sacramento. Isn't that North?

i have three broodies in one pen right now, they've been all sitting on eggs next to each other (there are dividers between the nest boxes) for several weeks, and often switching nests -- ONE of them has chicks hatching today (yay! they are marans x isbar olive-eggers), so will be watching carefully to see how the other two react. so far so good, one chick is out and peeping but the other broodies are still sitting tight on their own eggs...

in other news, a friend is coming today to get three laying hens from me (the two Amelias I got from you, Ron, plus one of the silver pencilled plymouth rocks), i need to take some growing-out boys to the feedstore, and i received a quad of birchen marans chicks from a texas breeder a couple of days ago in the mail... lots going on!

plus Blue the isbar rooster, who was injured by a fox about 10 days ago, seems to be slowly healing, although he's definitely not his usual self -- very slow and quiet, and today he is trying to squash into one of the broody nests with one of his favorite girls (thankfully not the one who has eggs hatching) -- he looks quite forlorn, but i'm amazed he's still alive at all!

Are these eggs you took home from the party?? I never even got over to see all those eggs. There were a ton of them huh?.......Like I need more hatching eggs.......LOL
Yep - them are they.
Goofy me - I can't remember the Profile Name for the person I bought them from.
We had a nice time chatting too.

Dang, I can't remember who I was talking about their egg carton label either. Can't really claim mommy-brain when the kidlet's 4-1/2 y o, can i?

Okay stupid question but the serama roo i got had screwed up brpken tail featgers is there a way (short of forced molt) to make him regrow his tail feathers by august?

This is my first time actually having broody's that were housed together (and grew up together) do that. They are in a tractor type coop, it's just them and the Roo. So I let it happen--and it worked.
I did of course, put fake eggs under them too at first as I do with all broody's before giving them real eggs to hatch. Their whole family is out free ranging for a bit, before I call them in and lock up to allow the others out. When multiple hens go broody from my main pen, those do get separated in their own apartments.hahahaaa

You could try plucking them and see if the regrow but those feathers are tough so that may be a terrible idea
