California - Northern

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know where I can find a box for shipping a blood sample in? I'm going to ask my vet if I can pay them to box up the sample for me, but if they say they can't or I don't like the way it's boxed, I need to be prepared to box it up myself. It just needs to be big enough to line with foam core and fit the blood sample, packing material, and ice packs. I'm shipping via FedEx.

Your vet will usually have styro boxes, it's what they receive their vaccines packed into. You can also usually get them for free from feed stores (same purpose). Sometimes you can get them as freebies from drug stores. It's too late to order them for you, but they are available online, small styro box inside a cardboard box.

Also, if you know anyone that gets Omaha steaks, they arrive in styro boxes.

I have a garage full of small sytro boxes and foam lined cardboard boxes from when I was in the frog hobby. It's what is used for shipping amphibians/reptiles.

Things like this.

Good luck in your search. I think your best bet is going to be your vet.

Staples and the UPS store have cardboard boxes and you can get the foam to insulate at home depot.
Click here to see foam options.

This is how I do mine:

Box, sides, bottom and and top.

Frozen ice pack in ziplock baggie.

Brown paper on top of ice pack.

Ice pack on top of brown paper.

Lid on top of brown paper.

Thank you, Kathy. I saw that on the necropsy page. Funny enough I already have the foam core needed, I use it as a reflector(light source) for my photography!

Perfect! All you need now is an ice pack and a box! I bet your vet will have an ice pack.

Okay stupid question but the serama roo i got had screwed up brpken tail featgers is there a way (short of forced molt) to make him regrow his tail feathers by august?
If the feathers are broken he won't replace them till he molts. Plucking them will get them to regrow but if they aren't grown in by August he may look like he has split tail which is a DQ.

Yep - them are they.
Goofy me - I can't remember the Profile Name for the person I bought them from.
We had a nice time chatting too.

Dang, I can't remember who I was talking about their egg carton label either. Can't really claim mommy-brain when the kidlet's 4-1/2 y o, can i?

Just ask on this thread. If they were at the party they probably read this thread or know someone that does.
Guess who has an incubator humming away in her back room?!

Good deal..........you go girl go..!!!!!!!!
Rio Linda feed store has ducks, a variety of chickens and turkeys. They have great prices and a very friendly, helpful staff for first time chicken owners... I'm in Sacramento, ca. I think of us as Northern California. We also have a city across the river called West Sac.
