In other news, the feedstore had tons of little Black Sex Links in and they were so freaking cute, but I managed to walk out without getting any! See, I'm not an addict.
I guess I'm not an addict either. I walked out of TSC around Easter without getting the ducklings.

Is it normal to not hear anything from eggs on day 20
It can be. If your temps are low, they will hatch late.

Quote: Feed store = Hatchery for the most part. A normal size nesting box will be fine. I have a hatchery light brahma, and she fits fine into a 12X12X12 nesting box. Now if you go to a poultry show and see breeder quality brahma's, you will look like this:

They are so freaking HUGE!

Wow, am I really close to 1,000 posts already? I just had a few hundred a couple weeks ago! Almost all of my post count is from this thread. Maybe I've been spending too much time on BYC...is that even possible?

I don't think it is.
Yeah...we talk a lot here. That's a good thing. And Hey...there is no such thing as too much time on BYC

Ok going to ask the silly question again. Which Incubator should I get if Im only moderately serious about hatching eggs.

Ive seen a wide variety of price ranges. Ive also seen lots of people post about home made ones.

What about the Still Air models?

There is so much to digest in the BYC hatching eggs area I get lost.

Get one that is Digital and fan forced. I read a post recently--a person with a Still Air incubator purchased a Brinsea ocatagon and went from an average of 40% hatch rates on shipped eggs to an 80% hatch rate.

If you are hatching at home with local eggs, the Genesis 1588 is a good choice. With increased cost come more automation--auto humidity control and etc.

If you are only going to hatch 7 eggs at a time, look into the Brinsea Mini.

The temp in the bator stayed between 102-103 and i havent heard anything i know the chicjs are living i candled them the night of the 17th

Allright more worming thoughts.
1. Im seeing safeguard listed as something you can put in the water. I dont remember talking about it here is there some reason it sucks?

2. Hatching eggs with safeguard. I did not see anything listed for the drug name and birth defects or anything on google at all for hatching eggs with this wormer. I know w. Is a nono but nothing listed for s....

With your background you might enjoy making one. They don't end up being that much cheaper but if you like tinkering people enjoy it

The important temperature is the internal temp of the eggs. Still airs are supposed to be 101.5 at the top of the egg. 103 is getting into the kill range for hatching eggs.

You also need an thermometer that reads tenths, so that you can set the top to 101.5. Walmart sells a Taylor that looks accurate for about ten bucks.

We did talk about it and the down side was not knowing for sure how much each chicken is getting for a dose. If dosage is not too critical, then it would not matter--like with ivermectin where the effective dose is much lower than the toxic dose.

Squirt the wormer onto a piece of Bread? I loved getting the polio vaccine on a sugar cube.....
