With the heat, snakes are looking for cool places to hide, so everyone be careful! We found this young one (2 buttons) under a portable welder in our carport when my husband heard it rattling when he walked by!

yeah it's 100 here too. my brother was moving some scaffolding and one popped up about 2 feet from his face. My rabbits aren't liking this temperature either

Yikes! That is too close!! Yeah, rabbits are heat sensitive! Time to give them the frozen water bottles to cuddle up to.

speaking of snakes.. last week I was a leader at a girlscamp and one girl runs in and grabs her phone and when I ask her what she's doing she says "Taking a picture of the rattle snake! bye!" and her and another girl run out before I can get them to come back and meanwhile the other leader says "well.. at least they're together!" so apparently one of the "Camp Dads" had caught one and it was in a bucket. lol

They are really pretty. We don't kill them. It has worked well to take them across the creek and release them far away from the house. We have never had the same snake come back. I take pictures of all the ones we have had to catch and relocate.

Natural predators are a great thing to have. The snakes will help with rodents and etc.

When we moved to our house in 1999, I bought a once a month for three months pack of beneficial insects. One of them was for Green Lacewings.

They have established themselves here. I saw one flying by the Plum tree last week in the evening. We do not have Aphids here since the Lacewing Nymphs, called Ant Lions, eat even more aphids than Lady But Nymphs.

Misters are set to auto at my place and sun shades are in place!

I ran the sprinklers ans they are all in the shade. I need to rustle up some 2 liter bottles to fill and freeze for them for tomorrow

Hi Northern California Friends!
I am a new chicken owner. We found our girl Annie living on a street corner in a bush about two weeks ago. I have been on here trying to figure out what breed she is. A few people have guessed that she is an Aseel, but feel free to give me suggestions if you think differently.

Trader Joe hatch update: LOCKDOWN day! The 2 that were growing on day 14 are still at it! Filled both trays; ran a small tube to one thru one of the small vents in the bottom for refills; laid both eggs on the hatching tray and...will now attempt to sit on my hands for the next 3 days...

What a beautiful snake! (never thought I would say that, but it is VERY striking....no pun intended) Glad he saw it in time. Close call!
