California - Northern

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who emailed about the Wheaten/ BCM chicks.

It is seeming they will have a very nice home to go to shortly.

There is a huge fire raging in our Napa County area, about 1 mile away from us--you may have seen it on the news.
Many of the locals have already been evacuated. It is very smoky/ hazy this morning, and there have been helicopters flying low and overhead. We have eggs in the incubator, brooders full of chicks, and juvies of all ages right now. (Working on BCM F1 stock.) Hopefully, the wind doesn't change direction, and come our way.
Ugh, hope the fire stays away and the smoke doesn't bother you too much.

No, the humidity is fine at 58%. It will go up quickly when the chicks start to hatch.

I agree,
Yippieee!

No pips for my TJs yet...
Well, hurry up! Can't wait to see if everyone else's TJ's come out all yellow (I got 3) or slightly spotty (I got 2).

My daughter's absolute favorite chick (well, not such a chick anymore), an EE she's named Eagle, is most definitely a cockerel. I was not keeping any EE boys, so of COURSE her very favorite would be one.

@caychris

It looks like the first three Pita Pintas I hatched are 1 boy and 2 girls. They are only two weeks old but one already has a bigger comb and is much bigger. They are quickly out growing the Partridge Penedesenca that hatched with them.

All three of them have very nice yellow legs too.

I just shot a video of them and will post it after it is converted on vimeo.
Can you show me pics Ill try to get some of mine my combs are not too big yet but one of my CLB comb is definitely bigger and all 3 boys bigger than the girl. They are somewhere in between. Its funny how the different breeds mature differently. My Pitas have black backs and in some ways the black down was replaced by feathers almost invisibly. Their neck down seems to be pretty thin at this point but I dont know if there is any down picking going on. I see occasional pecks but nothing consistent and no one seems to bully each other too much.

The video is compiling on vimeo. You can see them clearly and looking at it, I may be wrong about the second pullet. I may have two cockerels and a pullet.

One of each at least but time will tell. Just guesses for now really.

I went back and looked at all the chick pics I have of my Pita Pinta breeding flock. Every single one of them had bright yellow legs. I guess white legs are not dominant in this case. Would that mean that Zorro has a recessive white leg gene as well as at least 1 of his girls? He still has nice yellow legs but the pullets' legs have faded.

Since there are EEs being hatched and colors requested, can someone tell me what Penny's coloration is called. It seems to be common - the rust and gray (or is that called blue??)
400

Thanks!
And congrats to all the hatchers with the pips and zips. :)

Okay, 8 out of 14 EE eggs have pipped! The one that was pipped this morning still hasn't zipped so I expect it'll zip or hatch overnight, hopefully I wake up to an incubator with babies in it!
So far none of the TJ's eggs have even pipped

But one of them is wiggling, and hatch day isn't until tomorrow, so I won't start worrying...yet...maybe...

I have two similar looking EEs. The closes I've been able to find is the rather unimaginative color named of "blue-red".
