California - Northern

It got all the way up to 70 yesterday--a regular heatwave. Foggy and chilly today--I'd take some of everyone else's heat, if I could!

You poor thing! You must be miserable!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who emailed about the Wheaten/ BCM chicks.

It is seeming they will have a very nice home to go to shortly.

There is a huge fire raging in our Napa County area, about 1 mile away from us--you may have seen it on the news.
Many of the locals have already been evacuated. It is very smoky/ hazy this morning, and there have been helicopters flying low and overhead. We have eggs in the incubator, brooders full of chicks, and juvies of all ages right now. (Working on BCM F1 stock.) Hopefully, the wind doesn't change direction, and come our way.
Wow! That is so scary! We had to be evacuated in 2008 for the "Camp" Fire in July. We were out for 3 days.

When I first got my driver's license, Terrible Herbst 25¢ per gallon! I drove a HUGE Oldsmobile Cutlass and could fill my tank and get change for my $5 bill. Amazing, now I really sound like an old geezer.

On the other hand, I was earning $1.10 per hour minimum wage. So it took me fifteen minutes to earn a gallon of gas. My wages ended up far outpacing the inflation in gas, so I can't complain.
The lowest remember was $.19. That was back when I was in high school. I think cigarettes were about the same price. Glad I quit when I was 18.

Quote: FIres ae so scary! It seems like all of Northern CA...or just CA for that matter...is in a fire zone. My daughter is buying a house in Magalia with a VA loan and they had a hard time finding any insurance company that would cover them for fire. Very few are starting new policies there.

I'm up to 5 pips now! No zips yet.
YEAHHH!!!!

I was just getting on to update!

One Konza Ranger is our and one more has a pip.

Nothing for the Pita Pintas but hatch day is Friday so it is very early.

Yay!
I must of missed the posts of what a Konza Ranger is. But if Ron has them, you can bet they're good!

They are a dual purpose project from chooks chicks. She has been working on making a Fast growing good egg layer.

I am hatching them for tommysgirl.

@caychris

It looks like the first three Pita Pintas I hatched are 1 boy and 2 girls. They are only two weeks old but one already has a bigger comb and is much bigger. They are quickly out growing the Partridge Penedesenca that hatched with them.

All three of them have very nice yellow legs too.

I just shot a video of them and will post it after it is converted on vimeo.
