California - Northern

Nope, no movement. Just candled them and didn't see anything, and there were no heads or beaks in the air cells.

I know. It's already stinky from the chicks hatching the past few days, I can't imagine how much it would stink after a week!! Lol! I will open them up late this morning, as I think the last one hatched(without help) late yesterday morning.
Yes, that is a good plan. Like last time, slowly and carefully from the big end. I use tweezers.

My hatch was frustrating but did end up with 2 Pita Pintas(set 5, 3 developed. One zipped 3/4 of the way and died. It looked perfectly fine which is so sad but happens. I am so happy that I set some Pita Pinta eggs! @tommysgirl will have a couple now. I bet She will want more later.

Konza ranger: 18 set. 8 or so developed. 4 were early quitters and blood rings. two hatched fine. One hatched with internal organ prolapse and had to be culled.

Poor packing and shipping stress does that.

I will get some pictures this morning.

@BCollie , those were great pictures, thanks for sharing them as I have not seen a chick like that before. How are the other eggs? Any sign of life? I don't know about everyone else, but I'd like to see pictures of those as well, even if they are dead.

Congrats on your hatches and sorry for you losses.

Quote: Sorry the hatch went so poorley, but it is reassuring to know that even someone with as much experience and generally such good results sometimes has dissappointment. It makes me feel better about some of my own poor ones.

I would like to see them too.....

Many of what I would call experienced peafowl breeders are seeing all kinds of problems with fertility, malpositions, early and late quitters, etc this year. Could it be the whacky weather everyone's been having?

Problems with hatching was also being discussed on the heritage threads recently. A bunch of the Heritage RIR breeders had a hard time meeting their breeding goals this year. It was a weird year weather wise so that might be an explanation.

I hope next year is better for everyone.

I am having good hatches with local eggs though. I currently have a test hatch of Silkies!

I currently have a test hatch of Silkies!

Last night I candled the eggs I'm running for her (day ten), nine are developing nicely, one looks like it quit at around a week (obvious chick in the egg) and the other six eggs were clear.

The eggs you picked up from her were after they had been on supplements for a week or so, hopefully the fertility will improve.

I'm running the hatchery at the State Fair again this year, so I'll probably be bringing the silkie eggs down there to hatch for the public. So if you go into the Fur & Feathers building at Fair this year and see silkie chicks running around.............they'll belong to Cali Chick!

Since I didn't hatch any quail this year for their display (they were a nightmare last year to keep contained - kept having to find them on the floor), the display area will be filled out with a few of my bantam birds..............paint showgirl & frizzled serama are what I have planned so far.

It is great that you will be running the hatch booth again this year!

I just turned the cooling cycle on for the Silike eggs. They are looking strong so far--two clears and one of those odd looking eggs that often quit. The embryo is moving so there is hope.

this is wonderful
