California - Northern

I'm in the Modesto area. I am new to chickens this year. I have them just as pets and for eggs. I'd love to go to the Modesto show, it's open to the public right? I have no plans on showing my birds.
Welcome! Cute avatar.

Unfortunately this is what we have to deal with here in California.
Yeah, I have a friend who lost her home in Weed as well. Luckily, her whole family and their dogs all made it out unharmed. A young man from one of the fire crews coming back into town told me "Weed is basically gone".

There are going to be a lot of folks needing help.

Concord Feed only does chicks spring through early summer they sell hatchery chicks and only have them less than a week. They seem to do a good job with the ones they do they buy from Privet hatchery.

Yeah, um ... that's where I was. So I'm going to have to disagee. Place left me feeling sick.

Watching the local news tonight it was great seeing the local rivalrys being left behind. The surrounding cities are pitching in but more help is needed.

I finished HS in the area and it could get contentious between the cities. The paint was always wet on Indian rock graduation night, it would have probably 3 layers of each cities colors.

I haven't seen it in the paper yet but rumor has it they cut a fire break through town with a cat, taking down the houses in the way. I would be in shock seeing houses taken out.

Hmm... I bought 8 chicks from a local breeder. Five have died within the first day or two. I think I'm sending in a few to Davis just for peace of mind. I just need to call and get the FedEx account number in the morning, since we only have a drop box in town.

That's really odd...sorry to hear about your babies. I would definitely send a few in to Davis, I think that's a good idea. I overnight my birds to UCD.
I would also tell the breeder what has happened to see if he or she is 1. willing to replace the babies if necropsy shows that it was something that went wrong on his/her end, and 2. so that he/she is aware of the problem & can tell you if they've been having the same problem at their place or not.
