California - Northern

I'm not sure how long the weevil eggs take to hatch, but the bag is several months old.

The chickens have been getting sprouted seeds, including BOSS, for a while, as well as forage. Maybe that's why they have never been very interested in the scratch!

That would make a big difference for sure. Why eat scratch when they can hold out for the good stuff!

I had weevils in my whole grain barley one time.  It must have been an old bag because they appeared in the hundreds 4 days after we brought the bag home from the feed store.  Now I put the bags of whole grain in my big freezer for a minimum of 2 weeks after we bring them home.  That has taken care of the weevil problem!
The smallest bag of pigeon feed I can get that's corn free is 50 pounds. With only 2 pigeons it took nearly a year for them to finish it. I put it in gallon freezer bags and pulled them out as needed. I think I'll switch them over to pellets but it's a 2 hour drive to pick it up. Looks like I'll still have a freezer full of bird feed.

I'll send you my whole flock of pigeons, then you won't have that problem.

You do not have to mess with the vent to check for an stuck egg. You will feel it back there by palpating below the vent.

calcium pills, DE added to feed, vit D and calf manna. If giving them scratch, stop and start giving them black oil sun flower seeds.

Cocci is a possibility as well as mites. Both will make them puff up and act lethargic. Corid is the safest thing you can give a chicken so it is a good place to start.

Thanks for all the advice! I got some calcium in her and felt all around her butt feathers. It seems like her feathers have awfully long sheaths on her feathers like she isn't quite done molting.
I identified her little hip bones (yeah, probably not correct name) and the soft tissue from there to tail. I didn't feel any lumps. It was hard to even find her vent with all the long shafted feathers and her trying to balance. Then she shot out some runny poo. It was a good color tho, with the white stuff in it.
She isn't at point of lay yet. I'll get a helper to hold her while I look for her vent. If she is trying to lay it will be big, right?
I'll get the poultry dust and Corid tomorrow. And find a kitchen scale.
Thanks again,
Colleen

It sounds like cocci--watery poo is a sign.

If so, she will be better in 2 or 3 days. Corid is like magic when they have cocci.

Anyone here have Ameraucana eggs? DD is driving me nuts asking for EE chicks but I don't want more hatchery birds. I saw the add for dirty ankles acres and it lead me back to the wonderful enablers here.

ETA: I haven't stared into an incubator chanting "Hatch, hatch, hatch lately. I may have to load some quail eggs soon.

Me too!

The last hatch-lings are 5 weeks old...

Look in the ABC Breeders Directory and there is a breeder in Bend, Oregon. They have LF Black and Silver Ameraucanas.

Too bad mine are molting and I have no eggs for you. Good luck finding some!

@Papa Brooder has what he has labled an EE pen because there are EEs in it though it is mostly BBS AMs. I have two girls that I hatched from his eggs. One dark blue and one med blue.* Both are lovely. He will ship you eggs and/or chicks and will do a custom hatch for you as well.

ETA* the pullets not the eggs. The eggs they came from were light blue
