California - Northern

Imsure that hahas happened and those studies exist aa with anything that isn't technically labeled for "poultry" I probably shouldnt have said anything, because not all people on this forum would/could or even feel comfortable administering off labeled producta.....so to those......Don't try this at home!! Lol

The issue is not off lable the issue is it no longer working. It looks like most worms have become immune.

Welcome the new people that I have not welcomed! Good to see new tags on the thread.

Just a warning for people ordering from sandhill. I do not know anyone that the chicks they wanted rather then the filler chicks from sandhill. So don't get attached to breed and order from them.

Am I alone in feeling overwhelmed by all the information about worming? Can someone explain what I should do to protect my chickens? All the contradictions make my head spin.

In california the best thing to do is do a fecal every 6 months. Send poo to uc davis. This will tell you wth worm you are talking about.

Parasites are not one breed. Its like knowing if you are trying to deter a digging or flying preditor. If they are flying you do 1 thing if they are digging something else. If you know what worms you have you can make sure the wormer works on that worm well.

Of course if you see symptoms you can worm anyway as fecals can miss a new infestation of very small parasites.

Other places don't have acess to cheap great fecals so they have to treat blind. We are lucky.

Probably best to take fecal samples to a vet (or send them to Davis) and see if you have a problem with worms. That should tell you what type of worms you have (if you have any), from there you could research the treatment needed. All the contradictions make my head spin, too, so you're not alone, lol.
