That I can't answer, I'm just too new at chicken keeping to have that answer. I'd imagine, though, that it's the same as it is with cats and dogs - some will self regulate nicely, and others are pigs.

Oh, cool. What are you getting? I have some beautiful little mixed bantams from him that I'm hoping to use as quail-egg-brooders next year. I want to add some of his Salmon Faverolles to my current Faverolles eventually, too. And maybe some Rhodebars... yeah. Chickens are addictive. My chicks from @Papa Brooder have shipped!!! I will be obsessively checking the tracking number all night ...
it was faster because I skinned them. But I was worn out. I'm finding much easier to take them to the processor next timeWell that sounds like a deal too good to pass up!
(Edited to make sense...:/ )
Wow! That is very impressive! I am lucky to get 3 done in a couple of hours...but I am very OCD about the pin feathers. The last couple I did were both dark feathered so they took me even longer.

How big of a banty would work, if so?
I've only heard of them being used to brood, not raise. I know they can be susceptible to things chickens carry without showing any symptoms.ok this is what I was wondering. Can a bantam broody successfully raise quail?

Quote: I think quail are like turkey poults and peachicks, very susceptible to blackhead (histomoniaisis). When I let chickens raise poults and peas I treat them for blackhead before hatching.
