Jeff (@PapaBrooder) is the WORST chicken enabler ever.
I bought 8 chicks and he shows up with 30. Of course I bought the rest! Who can resist peepers?
21 splash/mottled orps, 8 Columbian orps (project), & 1 lavender/mystery with white wing tips.
Watching them grow is sure to chase my winter blues away.

...long sigh...so cute...

The whole pullet/cockerel, is s/he, thing is more stressful than I thought it would be. I'm constantly second-guessing myself while watching "chick tv" (and praying that all my fav chicks won't turn out to be cockerels!).

It really is, I was terrified that Pancake(my house chicken) was going to be a boy which would mean she would have had to go live where we keep our horses. I hope you get at least one pullet out of the three.

Um, I think folks are getting HighStreet and myself confused (easy enough to do, since we're concerned about the same thing and our chicks are about the same age)--I'm the one with only 3 chicks

I've got the same problem.

Hi all

Almost 3 months ago I got 2 Mille Fleur D'Uccles bantams, one turned out to be a cockerel. I can't have boys (already have a neighbor who called the city on someone with chickens because their pen was up against her fence line) so I'm looking for someone to give him a good home.
If anyone is interested let me know. It's going to be rough separating them, they are both sweet and stay attached to each other whenever they are free ranging.

Oh how pretty! I believe these are mottled d'uccle, not mille fleur, though.

You are probably right. I'm just going off what the feed store told me, and we all know they can be wrong.

We bought 7 different chicks from them and they charged us for eight. We didn't notice until the next day. They also told us all the bantams were female, ( with that whole 95% certainty loophole) but we found out later they were actually straight run.

Dude! I guess you don't much need my splash or blue pullets now, but I would sooooooo love to acquire a black and a mottled one from you if you're willing to part with them! Still totally willing to swap blues if you want them though (assuming I have any pullets; I swear the combs on my birds are starting to freak me out, LOL!).

Of course I still want to trade! :) I don't have any blues or splash & how could I deny the blacks a special home? I wouldn't go back on a promise unless there was a REALLY good reason (like, my birds were ill or worse).
I have to say just what fun personalities the batch of chocolate & black orps are - they mob me every time I go in the pen - "Whatcha got? Can I eat your shoes? How about your fingers?" Sooo tame & sweet.
