We live in Grass Valley, about 50 miles north east of Sacramento. I always thought of the Bay Area in Northern CA and central was Monteray, Salinas, Bakersfield, etc. Hope to get lots of good info here!

The pyncheons eggs came from FL and there were some with detached air cells. I let them sit for 24 hours and them let Mom take over. I wish I had marked them, (20/20 hindsight), I candled at 14 days and left 3 very questionable eggs with the 3 strong eggs. She hatched all 6 I left with her, 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs.Hey @PetRock
eggs arrived YESTERDAY!!!e I took pics but still have to email them to myself. You packed them beautifully. Thanks so so much for all your efforts and the extras. The PO did damage the outer box but there were no breaks or cracks to the eggs. There were a couple of floating air cells after 24 hours but I just went ahead and put them under her with the good ones. Love the color of those green ones
Has anyone ever hatched eggs with air cell damage under a broody? I googled it but was unable to find much specifically about it. So these babies should be here on the 27th. Looking forward to whatever comes from this clutch![]()
Good morning my friends
I had a lot of Hawks around and my pen is large with an open top. I ran fishing line on the top,I have not lost one Bird c
Since, as a matter of fact I mite see one once a month if at all. This also works for koi ponds.
Your friend Mike
Thank you for your response I contacted fish and game and shared with them I was loosing chickens and how I was going to approach the problem with the Hawks. The hawks eye sight is extremely good and they can see the fishing line and if they happen to hit it the line will snap I use six pound tess, this would be rare for the hawk not able to see it. I also was concered about hurting this beautiful animal. If the hawk sees the line they will not attempt to pass through it because they do not want to chance breaking a wing. I have four and five feet gaps and I have had no problemswhat are your thought? My friend
Whoo hoo!!!!! That's good news! I look forward to seeing the pics and hearing how the hatch goes. Go, Norma, go!!!
The holeBut thankfully this is how they were packed![]()
see the smaller box all nestled snuggly in those peanuts?
In the small box was shredded paper and peanuts and in that there were 13 eggs with "This end up" Arrows written on their bubble wrap sleeping bags
like this!
5 green....PP/CL x??? right? and 8 brown barn yard grab bag loveliness!!! Norma is on 10...gracie is on 3 until her eggs come next week. At that point I will candle and shuffle![]()
I didn't mark the ones with the air cel damageGreat packing!![]()
Without the double box, you would have lost at least three eggs. The setup like that also lets the egg move separately from the other eggs which is why you only had two with scrambled air cells.
They should hatch very well for you under the broody hen.
