Help please!

Rescue transport is needed for 2 hens from Milpitas to the Sacramento area.

The hens are without shelter in this awful stormy weather. They are strays who turned up in a gentleman's yard over a week ago, and he has put out the call for rescue assistance.

Please help get these hens to the safety of their adoptive new home.

If you know someone travelling from Milpitas/Fremont/San Jose area to the Sacramento area (perhaps going skiing in Tahoe?), spread the word please!

Thank you!

Concord Feed doesn't carry Sweet PDZ. I asked for it last Saturday at their semi annual sale. They do have Stall Dry and I bought some of that to try under the pine shavings in the coop. Everything is so wet and muddy around here. Monet and I spent hours yesterday making sure everything was clean and dry in preparation for today's deluge. Our backyard lake is growing by the minute but thankfully, we haven't had very much wind, yet!
Yeah the coop roosting area is dry the nest box which hangs off the side leaked horribly so it all wet. I added some plastic sheeting to divert water away from the seams where it was leaking hopefully that helps.

The ground is so soaked that I have the same lake problem.

Do we know what they are?

Advice needed...I got my HAL eggs finally about 40 min ago one Aircell is all over the place...completely detached so I fed it to the girls in their oatmeal...it was #8 and she can't fit it anyway. one is saddle but firmly where it supposed to be one looks perfect, the rest are either not visible or just a little wobbly. I am supposed to set them now for the HAL but am warming them up. Should I give them 24 hours for the air cells? I think they were all laid on Sunday or Monday.

This is a broody hatch and Gracie Belle will not go for a carton under her. I checked.

Thanks in advance!

Let them come to room temperature and then give them to the broody.

She should be able to hatch them fine.

My coops are dry but in wet weather my birds still go out to forage so they are wet and their feet are wet & muddy. That makes lots of moisture in the coop especially since the nights are longer so roosting time is longer. I am hoping that putting a layer of Stall Dry under the wood shavings will help with the excess moisture and smell.

Yes, they are your average red hens. Can you help with transport?
Its a possibility im currently in Alameda and could possibly pick them up (but I dont have a carrier or box with me) and bring them to antioch where I have a small costco coop empty at the moment. I can be sure they are fed and have a dry place to sleep for a few days but I cant get to sacramento area till the weekend.

That would be fabulous!! I'll have to message you their current location privately. Would you be able to rustle up a box or crate or something to transport them in? I sure appreciate this offer!

Hi all, it's been a while!

Yesterday I found my 7yr old Jersey Giant hen had fly strike on her bum. I instantly got a clean cage, and some medical supplies ready. I soaked her in Epsom salt water, which flushed many maggots out. I then soaked her in water with Betadine (surgical soap). After not seeing anymore maggots, I clipped the feathers surrounding the wound and vent. I then globbed honey on the medium-sized (compared to other pictures of fly strike sites I've seen) hole underneath the vent. It didn't smell after the Betadine, and it doesn't smell today, thank goodness. She has an appetite for her regular pellets, and she is drinking. Also, she does not lay.

Do you guys have any suggestions or additions I should continue doing to help her heal? I was also wondering if any of you have had this problem?

BTW, yay it's raining!

I have had a few birds get fly strike, and it's not fun. Two were too far gone and had to be put down. The other I managed to save. I think when they start having reproductive issues, it can change their poop, which attracts the flies. I keep fluffy butts trimmed, so there was no other reason for it.

Keep her separated from the floc, and away from flies if possible. If you have vetericyn wound spray (I recommend the gel) it will help the wound heal - it's amazing stuff.

school is canceled!  No work for me!!!

Wow, they cancelled school? Ours are still open.

Good luck with your broody hatch!
