California - Northern

I wanted to tell you that I actually sent in my entry, last Sat. So, I guess I'm showing for sure. I'm kind of terrified, since my birds are no where near as good as they should be for this level of show. I'm trying to look at it as a learning experience. At least the breeds will be there for the public to see.
yeah you live with your birds and see them every day you notice every perceived flaw and unfulfilled expectation.

Its hard not to so don't worry. Learning experience is good.

Yay! I feel EXACTLY the same! I'm also looking at it as a learning experience.

I haven't had a spare second to cage train yet either.

Are you showing both Delaware and SG Dorkings?

W00T! Dad is going to help me cut out all the parts for my external nesting boxes this weekend. Using his table saw will make the project sooooo much easier than doing it with a circular saw and a jig saw on my own.

That is very nice of him!

My Dorkings really need cage training. The Delawares that I trained got so relaxed that they were too relaxed. Every time that I looked at them, at the Expo show, they were laying down.

Yes.
I had a conversation with someone who shows a lot. She told me never to enter just one bird because it won't catch the judge's eye. She said if you enter a group of them, it creates sort of a wow factor, so they stop and spend more time. I was thinking it would be the same for visitors. And that they would like to see both sexes. So, I entered three cockerels and three pullets of each breed.
And now, I've got to bathe and groom a DOZEN birds! I don't think I've even got 12 crates. We'll have to transport them with the horse trailer.

How exciting!

And a lot of work.

You will do well at the show.

I'm hoping to calm the cockerels down, they tend to be more flighty than the pullets. My welsummer cockerel really struts his stuff, so I'm hoping that shows in the cage.

I can't wait to see your birds!

And visit with you again. I'll have my 11 year old son with me this time. He wants to go, but not for the poultry, he wants to go because he gets to stay in a hotel.

I'm getting really excited to go to the show and hopefully meet some of you wonderful people! I've only been to 1 small show and my husband and 3 year old daughter are coming with me this time so it should be a lot of fun! I'm really looking forward to seeing the junior showmanship as my daughter is fascinated with anything that the older kids do and already is quite the little chicken helper.
