California - Northern

Pics of my latest hatch from the incubator (13 hatched out of 30 set, 9 not fertile, couple of early deaths, couple mid-way deaths = STINKY eggs, 2 late deaths no internal pips):
2 red pyle x white or splash Old English Game Bantams
3 showgirls (naked neck silkies): black, partridge & white
7 silkies: black, dk gray, lt gray, 2 partridge, white w/black spots (?), & white
1 silkie x ?: chipmunk fuzz w/orange feet (hmmm..)

Look at these crazy markings - it'll be neat to see what it will it feather out to be

@chiqita who's been sneaking into the silkie pen? Any guesses? Orange feet & chipmunk strips equals silkie x ??? I love surprises. :)
I'm in love!!! I especially like the show girls. They are my favorite kind of silkie. The lil stripey one; I can't wait to see it when it grows up. Please keep us posted :)

Just for you...(Warning @KernH : ugly chickens - don't look :) )

Nice black feet & face, pink on the back of the neck, hopefully it'll darken up

Cute white or silver

This lil' partridge one would not be still for photo op...

Did I mention that 3 of the silkies/showgirls are from pale green eggs?
I never knew they could lay colored eggs.
They hatched while I was gone so I couldn't track who came out of what, though, dang it.

What I really hate is that with the vertigo it is so easy for glare to trigger an attack. Before I had it, I was happy to jump in the car and head from the Bay Area to Portland by myself, and I used to drive the whole way alone, sleeping in freeway rest areas and on road sides. Once I spent the night in a Weed gas station parking lot (with permission) tucked into the sleeping bag on the car seat when the state patrol shut down I-5 overnight due to snow.

I'd drive from Corvallis or Portland to Yakima, camp out at a campground, visit my aunt, and come back, whether a friend could come along or not.

Now I find it tricky to go to Saratoga or Marin County or SF from here. It is depressing as all get out. Coming back from Modesto as a passenger I had a minor episode, had to take medication, and slept most of the way home.

I hate it. I wouldn't wish this disease on Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin, or Pol Pot.

Ok - 1 more & then no more chick spam
Spam it up girl!!!

If crowing at night is the only problem, there are ways to muffle that.

Walt

Tell us more.

Right now I have blueberry bushes planted in a hedge along three sides of the coop, and I'm working on raising the perch so Buster will have to decide if he really wants to be on the top beam or he wants to crow.

I have been told tossing a box over at night helps, and playing a radio, and having a dim light so outside light changes don't inspire them.

The most likely person to complain is the one with Hound of the Baskervilles. I suspect a friendly chat pointing out that we have never reported the horrendous all night caterwauling, but if word one is said to animal control about any daytime noises made by Buster, we could start. If the city does try to cite me, I do have a case because the council recently abolished our noise ordinance in order to "promote and further development" so it would seem like a pure case of discrimination if they did complain about Buster. Since it is now legal to have loud, obnoxious construction helicopters up at the Dawn's Early light, it seems a sweet little rooster really wouldn't be cause for any enforcement action, as the sole grounds for barring roosters in this town is stated as the noise factor.

More, please, please, please?
