Congrats on these beauties!

Hope your hatches go better than mine. I had a batch of Bresse eggs with a couple of Buckeyes and Dominiques thrown in that were du for lockdown today. I candles them and out of 14 eggs only 1 looks like it MIGHT be on track. The others never even started. These were from shipped eggs from one of the auction threads here. The seller was back east and kept delaying shipping but not communicating with me. I had to email her repeatedly to get any info. Purchased on 2/11/15 and no egg until 2/28/15. . I am so disappointed....I was really looking forward to those Bresse chicks.......

Get Bresse eggs from chiquita.

I may be able to get some too--the egg farmer has them separated in a pen and the eggs should be pure--he has not had them with any other roosters.

I've got some silkies hatching, due tomorrow. One pipped last night, and started zipping, but has done nothing since yesterday afternoon. Its chirping and tapping inside the egg. Should I help it? I know how, I've done it many times before, I just want a second opinion.

Debi helped out a CLB that seemed similar, starting to shrink wrap, turns out its legs don't work properly so now I have a gimpy chick because I just couldn't bring myself to cull it. Without trying to treat splayed leg. With some support it can get up an waddle around and seems fine otherwise (undersized and slower to develop but stlll going at 2.5 weeks) After this experience I'm of the opinion that it might have been better to let nature take its course. (Not blaming Debi I would probably have done the same thing you just never know)

yep they are laying again. Chrissy has some tk that are derived from clovis. I think the egg farmers will be cousins. All ours started from the same breeder iirc but i won the lotto on my rooster.

oh wait! Ron you guys have a son of clovis now too right?

I have some hens from a lady in Lodi--She was off of ebay. There is a hen or two from @PetRock and a rooster from Clovis.

It is a mixed flock so genetics should be good. I have some in the incubator currently and they are developing nicely--on day five. Tomorrow is day 7 so I will officially candle them.

pet and i had hens from the same breeder. I think it might be your lodi chick don't remember. But she had a large amount of chickens so the genetics was good there too.

We both got our Bresse from a lady up by Santa Rosa. All I have left are 2 or 3 hens and some mixed breed hens. We decided to stop breeding them for several reasons. Our original cock was super nasty to everyone and each of his sons that showed promise turned mean, too. The girls were loves but excelled at escaping enclosures so my farm friend was not happy with them. We also decided that we prefer the taste of the Pita Pinta meat over the Bresse meat. Since both breeds are about equal in the egg laying department, we decided to concentrate on breeding the Pita Pinta.

I think the Bresse are slightly larger birds by comparison but I've seen the temperament differences in the males and would agree. Cant say which meat Id prefer as Ive only had PP and CLB so far and both are great though CLB are small birds.
