Sylvester is really starting to shape up. He'll be six months old on Monday.

A third pullet laid today (Clorinda, the baskeball splash girl). So only one blue has yet to start. The eggs are small (classic pullet eggs), but the yolks are a nice dark orange and the eggs are very, very tasty. Poached two this morning. *grin*

I am also interested how your feed and waterers are assembled =)

I didn't make them; I ordered them from someone cause I am not very handy. They have worked out pretty well so far although they were a bit expensive. You could probably make your own for much cheaper if you are more handy. I'll try and find the website that I got them from & post on the thread....

Well I'm testing the "eggbator" for Neil full digital automatic 48 egg bator. Any one ever use this, temp is in centigrade so it seems that hitting 38 is bad, Im running the test now humidity seems pretty stable at 54 right now.

Im going to get a separate thermometer/hygrometer to test and compare the temps. I put it in my anwar with the doors so far seems good.

I think I'll just set the eggs tomorrow evening after running the bator for a day if it holds steady.

Eggs contribute to humidity too right?

Hello Kaychris,
Yes, eggs emit moisture through the various membranes and ultimately the shell porosity. It is a major part of the necessary, intricate and complex incubation weight loss phenomenon. Thanks for taking over this project. I really enjoyed your help and company today. Too bad that you and I live so far apart what with all these mutual goals and interests. Anybody near Lodi have a reasonably priced rural house to sell for a worthy project? Each and all of you who celebrate Easter have a rewarding experience. I'm at an age where I can hide my own Easter eggs

Almost forgot to inquire. Amy Paper Lady, just what concoction of breeds is your latest broody setting hen? I'll bet that she turns out to be a great momma too! Yes, by popular acclaim she is as cute as a bug. I take some of that back, hens eat bugs,,,
My best to you and yours,
Neal, the Zooman

I don't really know what all Frieda has in her--the lady I got her from said she's a super mutt  I do know that there's some game bird in the mix, though. She's about 15 months old, now, and is a sort of in-between size--kinda big for a bantam, kinda small for LF. Which made it even funnier when she charged our boxer when the dog looked like she might have been interested in her chicks last Fall! Alas, that batch of chicks all turned out to be cockerels, which I can't have here (unless one of my daughters joins 4H and registers the bird, but those chicks were mixes...)
