California - Northern

lol, maybe I'll be joining that club. We went on a walk-through of a house today and my husband looked at the detached garage and said "this would be nice and secure for your grow-outs if we live here".

He's starting to drink the kool-aid!

So your in the "chickens kick the car to the curb" club huh. Heehee
Well the logo for pampered chef was a chicken for a while that kicked the car to the curb a long time ago.

Garage real estate is much more valuable as food storage chicken brooder, (future hydoponic lettuce garden) business storage (wife's pampered chef biz) and semi functional work shop than a car park.

@ronott1
do you have a link to your incubation issue chart? Someone needs it i think.

I keep loosing it im a terrible book marker.

Our garage is full-blown woodshop at this point with a tiny corner for laundry. DH just started his own luthier / woodworking buisness and my chicks got kicked back into the house; not that I'm complaining.

Thanks all for your cheers for little Milagros

Kept her in the house...she was LOUD ...until bedtime then popped her back under Gracie and all is well. They will stay locked in the coop during the day and I am going to band her so that I can tell her apart from her sister. There are some subtle differences right now...the sister has a more distinct point on her head... but I imagine it will get harder to tell with time.

Urch Houdan will hopefully be here next week

or maybe the week of the 4th or 18th

Looking forward to those mottled crested littles!

Hi all - anyone got a Breda that picks at her toe feathers to the point of making them bleed? I don't know if ours is picking at the quills because they are annoying her or if it is a habit. We got her shipped to us 2 weeks ago and she and her Amer traveling companion are 4 m/o and we have them in quarantine in an indoor dog kennel. Both arrived positive for round worms via our vet's lab fecal tests which I treated for. The stress of shipping and a new environment brought on CRD symptoms w/ the Breda which the vet treated for and both juveniles are well again. Just to be certain we treated for lice/mites too. Now I have the issue w/ Breda of the toe-feather picking to the point of making it bleed and we don't want the other chicken to join in blood picking. We dip the feet in Grannick's Bitter Apple twice a day but its not deterring her. Other than BluKote are there any suggestions for stopping toe-feather picking? I have Silkies where I never had them pick at their toe-feathers.

Thanx for suggestions! This is a wonderfully active thread and hope someone has had a similar experience?

With all the medication, she is likely in need of nutrition.

feather picking is a symptom of Methionine deficiency. Check into increasing it along with higher protein for a couple of weeks. Usually game bird starter is good to use.

Quote: Sorry...it was someone on the Cream Legbar thread that was saying they had 1 cockerel and 9 pullets. I was thinking it was you for some reason...
